Sony: PS4 Could Have The Best Launch Lineup In Our History

It's why Sony delayed the PlayStation Vita: They desperately wanted to have the best launch lineup a PlayStation platform has ever seen.

And surprisingly, with 25 titles available at the release of the new portable, one could indeed argue that it had the best launch in PlayStation's history. Sony wants to up the ante again with the PlayStation 4.

In speaking to CVG, Sony Worldwide Studios vice president Michael Denny said they expect the PS4 to have "the strongest launch lineup we've ever had." Thus far, we know that Killzone: Shadow Fall and Knack, both of which were announced at the PlayStation 4 unveiling, are launch titles. But it would kick ass if games like inFamous: Second Son and DriveClub were also out when the new machine hit shelves.

Said Denny:

"I think you’re always going to want to cover the big genres – the big, triple-A experiences – and keep pushing them and keep innovating within them. I think Drive Club was a great idea and part of their vision you would’ve seen in Motorstorm RC on Vita – more of a social type racer, but on PS4 I think they feel they can do a more fully formed racer and bring some of those things in to it."

You may also see some generation-straddling titles at the PS4 launch, too. For instance, Watch Dogs should be on the list, which is one of the most anticipated games of 2013. There's no doubt that a huge launch lineup is critical to the PS4's success right out of the gate, so here's hoping Sony makes good on their prediction.

So many games, so little time.

The persistent and unwavering march of time doth labor mine heart with loves too great in number to betroth myself to all that which tempts mine enamored soul.

After all the debates on hardware, it's going to be games that define the ps4's success. I'm hoping for a great launch line-up, including Uncharted 4. I also hope that ps4 releases simultaneously, worldwide, early enough to be on everyone's "xmas list"

They have to save something for 2014. You don't want a holiday line-up like the last one when you're trying to capture the second-wave buyers.

From what we saw at the show, not at all. None of them top the PS2 launch with Tekken Tag Tournament, that game had top PS2 graphics from day one and took the perfect gameplay of Tekken 3 to mold the perfect fighter - its the only reason I got Tekken Hybrid on PS3.

Either they are confident that Uncharted 4 is coming along with some others yet unannounced as well as Second Son and Driveclub or they are confused about what a strong launch lineup is.

Generation straddling titles simply don't count in my opinion. Those are more of a reason NOT to buy the new hardware unless you have a graphics fetish. Multiplatform titles count less because you can get them on either system, but more if they are exclusive and I don't think we will see a single one of those. Knack looks like it might sell 4 copies.

They are going to have to bring it at E3 for me to really buy that the launch will be so good.

I'm interested in the media capabilities of this device. I know it's mainly about the games but this generation has shown me how entertaining the other features can be. I use my PS3 for so many things other than gaming.

So, like the price of one anime Blu-ray per year.

;P

As sad as it sounds Naughty dog are not gonna release two AAA games in the same fiscal year.
September or november 2014 Uncharted 4
Killzone, infamous, knack, driveclub watchdogs, maybe a call of duty & whatever MM are doing.
If these are all launch titles then so far so good.

I think it's a good idea to have a nice broad range of titles available at launch, but it's also equally important to have new titles releasing throughout the rest of the first year too.

It would be unbelievably amazing if all their first party studios end up making a launch game. That would be a hell of a lot of success for them.

But of course it's very unlikely.

Although, have a Santa Monica + Naughty Dog launch game bundle with PS4 and that thing will definitely sell.

There is so much focus that goes into the launch line up. I understand that is important, but it is just as important to keep the games coming. Vita is a perfect example. Amazing launch, yet after that just nothing...

i hope so!
your going to need one amazing lineup to cover for those disappointing specs!
i hope $ony has some cool weird unique indie titles for launch, they will really help sell the system as something more than just a shooter box!
i really hope cage is there close to launch as well, doubt it but id be a big advantage to have a game like his as a launch, or close to launch, title.

It's pretty obvious that the PS4 can have the best launch in history because the platform is going to be so damn easy to develop on, most of the games made available will be superior (hopefully) ports of current gen games. Plus it'll be cheap, especially if the game has a PC version.
