What Will Entice You To Purchase The PS4 Come Launch Day?

Presumably, the PlayStation 4 will launch later this year. A great many are anxiously anticipating its arrival.

But of course, all consumers must prioritize; all must say to themselves, "Okay, it has to have this and this or I'm not buying it on day one." So above all else, what is the one feature that will force your hand come launch? What is the one thing that will make you say, "Yeah, you know, I just can't wait"?

Interestingly enough, for maybe the first time in the PlayStation's history, "potential" may not be on everyone's lips. While developers will certainly grow more comfortable with the architecture as time goes on, the ease with which designers have taken to this new familiar hardware negates huge future leaps. Then again, maybe you're waiting for specific games to arrive...specific exclusives, perhaps? Ah, but what if some of those are available on launch day? We know Killzone: Shadow Fall is one and what if inFamous: Second Son is another? If Uncharted 4 showed up, holy crap, game over. Everybody will want a PS4 immediately.

But maybe you're more interested in another feature - or set of features - the PS4 boasts. We're hearing an awful lot about the greatness of the Dual Shock 4, for example, and you might be all sorts of psyched for that upgrade. Personally, I don't care much about the features revolving around multiplayer or social media, but I know I'm probably in the minority.

games. bad ass games. and it would need to be like 20 games in the first 6-9 months and not dry up like the vita did. all 20 games better be like 8s and 9s if not 10s. even then it would depend on the price.

Games, Killzone 4 and Knack for starters. Uncharted 4 would be a dream. I don't care about price as I am impressed with what I have seen so far. There is just a whole lot to be happy about with the PS4. The Playstation Cloud has my full attention. It's going to be a very tough wait.

Well, where ever Gran Turismo 6 goes will dictate how soon I purchase a PS4.

Gran Turismo games are huge for me and I play each title for about two years.

I am in the same boat as maxpontiac.

Also, if there are reports that those jaguar chips will operate at a low enough temperature, it would be a huge plus for me. I'm still mad about my original 60gb dying out. I take care of my stuff, but that thing had no hope. The PS4 better not generate too much heat. I want a console that I can comfortably play in the summer, without hearing a fighter plane inside it.

Games. Killzone, Drive Club, and Watch Dogs...and hopefully InFamous. The DualShock 4 looks perfect. Beyond that, I am wondering if Killzone will incorporate the light bar on the DualShock 4 for aiming. I could see it being used for precise and quick aiming. When aiming with the Move on the PS3, it immediately occurred to me that the best console set-up may be the dual analog sticks along with the Move. Rather than the Move replacing the right analog stick.

Games and price are priority. If there's not enough enticing games or an affordable price ($300-$500) then it'll take back seat for sure.

Another thing that makes me wait is the reliability of the console. Don't get me wrong, I trust Sony to deliver at least a competent machine but I try to stay away from launch consoles until I see that there are no problem emerging since that happened to some PS3 includng my Gunmetal fatty and it wasn't even a launch one.

If my friends buy it on Day 1, so will I.

I'm already sold on Killzone Shadow Fall, Infamous Second Son, Driveclub, Watch Dogs, Destiny and The Witness. Thing is, I can wait for those games to drop in price, along with the console.

The only absolute thing that would make me run out and buy one on release is if ALL of my friends get one too. I like my games, but I'm not THAT obsessed with them!

I feel this way cos my PS3 and 360 already give me everything I need from home entertainment, and I'll need to see something as revolutionary and awesome as Uncharted 2 or Heavy Rain before investing in new hardware.

Nothing. Mainly because like the past consoles on their first official releases, they tend to have hardware or even software issues which I'd rather avoid. I predict the same kind of thing with the first PS4 model.

I'm pretty pumped for I:SS and Watch Dogs. If those two are launch titles, that should be enough to last me until more games come out. So I'm not super worried about the lineup.

Price is a concern as is the UI scheme and control setup. I'm a little concerned about the touchpad on the DS4 and am super worried that Somy will try to push Move support as a standard feature like they tried with the Sixth Axis. I'm generally not an early adopter, but if those concerns prove unfounded and the price is reasonable, I might make an exception in this case.

I got PS3 day one, and I ended up spending a majority of my first year playing PS2 games.

For a D1P for me.... we'd be looking at something incredible...

Like... an FF7 remake.

Im the opposite. I got the PS3 bout a month after release, and I finished GoW2 and never looked back. I used to be good at keeping up with my backlog. Now days, im actually a few great games behind, but I plan on getting the PS4 on day one.

Nothing really needs to entice me. I will be purchasing it (pre-ordering if possible) launch day regardless of lack of games. I did it for the PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS Vita. I'm not going to break my tradition now. :)

I'm more likely to wait for a special edition that comes with special features or a game I really want. If however it releases with a special edition, game included at a $300 price point I'd be up for it.

Honestly though I see the ps4 as more of a ps3.5 than a huge leap to a new generation. Not that, that's necessarily bad, but if it's another $500 console, I'll wait.

Well, since this machine is pretty much exactly how I would have designed a console was I given the chance, I can't say anything else than that I am totally sold on this system. I feel pure love.

For me it is the potential more than the launch titles. I really think this machine has a ridiculously high potential of serving games that is a perfect match to my gaming preferences, and for me that is the very definition of a good console.

IF, sony didn't monitor your every move,

IF the internet connectivity "really" proves not to be necessary ALL THE TIME, without some penalty,

IF they don't enforce the "pay-for-what-you-already-own" strategy and actually LET me play games I already HAVE for FREE(won't happen because they won't play CDs=no PS1 replay),

IF there isn't ever another "on disc" LOCKED content...

Sony monitor your every move? I think there is one thing that the PSN hack proved beyond a shred of doubt is it that if Sony can't implement sufficient tracking and logging to have a working early warning system to detect intruders in their proprietary network before they get to the user databases, they sure as hell can't effectively track 77+ million PSN users.

That's fine if you think that they can't do that. But, when a console has more Ram than an average PC it shows a company's effort, determination and how deep the pockets are for Sony.

If they can have a beast of a machine, I think their network capabilities may have improved some too.

dude, the ps4 has a HALF of the RAM of a average PC!
hell, not even that!
the cheap crappy 13 inch HP work supplied for me cost them 400 bucks and that has 24GBs of RAM in it!
not to mention the laptop i use for my programming course has 32GB, and that only cost me 1000 bucks a year and a half ago!

excited to see what the new controller is like too!
i just hope $ony have some sort of gamepad controller as well like what ninty has with the wiiu.
really comes in handy that thing, even when your just surfing the web or watching videos.
i really like how ubisoft used it with zombiu, id be a real shame to see $ony ignore that side of gameplay it really does add a extra layer of experience.

im hoping once the ps4 launches, the gaikai service will and will be able to stream ps1 and ps2 games to whatever device we want.
only thing im worried about is licensing.
allot of ps2 games i wanna play, the simpsons hit and run for instance, there will be quaffles on who owns the rights to it.

I was a bit disappointed by the lack of backwards compatibility, especially since that is how a lot of consumers get by until more games are released. That being said, if this launch lineup is as robust as it is being hyped to be, and every game is available for trial, as has been hinted, I think a purchase will be justified. This might be the first time I've pre-ordered ANYTHING since Star War Episode I for the original Playstation.

Unlike with the PS3, I'm not sure what could convince me to purchase this on launch. Most of my friends will but as I have a mind of my own that won't play into my decision.

I'd like to hear that although your PS3 games won't play in the PS4, they can read what they are and give you access to the stream version for free (as you've already paid..)

They could make it clear that lots of the social media related elements can be switched off.

As I only connect to the net when I NEED to connect then reassure me that I can buy a physical disc or dl a game and I can play them without being online.

They can reassure the whole gamer market that they haven't cut any corners and that the system is tested to destruction. No more overheating and expensive repair bills please. Heck , My launch 360 outlasted my original PS3.

I'd like the here that too, but more than that I'd like to see a real world, real time demonstration of action games being played with zero appreciable lag via the cloud on a regular person's DSL based Internet hookup and home wireless router. I do not believe that they have this worked out sufficiently, and until I see no appreciable lag in a real world setting as described, I will not believe that they can manage the streamed gameplay for BC.

A new Final Fantasy - as always, but one that doesn't cop out and seem like a spin off...

A new Metal Gear though I hope Ground Zeroes remains on the PS3.

Beyond that, Tekken 7, A Level-5 JRPG, Uncharted 4, something by R* I'm not to sure at this moment most of the franchises I loved from the PS1 days have faded now.

The *only* thing that will convince me to buy one of these on day 1 is if there is a premium SKU that includes the capability of playing PS3/PS1 games in the box. I do not believe that streaming PS3 gameplay is workable, and until I see it with my own eyes on a regular person's Intenet hookup, I will simply disregard any claims made for it. Therefore, the best way to attract my wallet is for Sony to bite the bullet and make hardware BC an option for a premium SKU.

I think a lot of people who are excited about this streaming tech -- Sony included -- are awfully naive about the state of America's infrastructure. We are WAY behind the rest of the first world. I live in very wealthy condo building downtown Washington DC, the most powerful city in the world, with the best connection available set up in my apartment, and it simply conks out all. the. time. I can barely even stream movies over Amazon Prime these days. And in six months we're going to stream entire PS3 games with no lag? Bull. S***.

Yeah I agree about adding PS2 to the compatibility feature as well. Sure there are very nice Remastered PS2 Trilogies/Collections on BDs playable on the PS3, but what about the gems that haven't/won't be remastered in HD for the PS3 format. Therefor full backwards compatibility for all PS titles please! That would be a very nice feature for a premium/special edition model. I think I'd support that. :-) As long as they always manufacture and support such a model though! I'm all for added features, and better tech too. If it is too much to ask for though, In the very least PS1/PS3 compatibility though.

they could do that, but the reason they chose the ARM CPU for the backgroups processor job is that it has extremely low power consumption. The CellBE is a power hog, so it's not really suited to the task.

I would like that, a premium edition including both the 'Cell' and 'Emotion engine' chips for full native backwards compatibility, maybe they could release one a couple of years after the PS4's been out, when they stop producing the PS3, else PS3s would stop selling if they offer such an edition from the beginning I think.

inter online play between the PS4 and PS3 for the likes of COD. Not much point in rushing out to buy the PS4 when my buddies' wives likely won't let them all get it immediately - don't want to be stuck with only a few of us playing MW4 on the PS4.

Who am I kidding - looking at KZSF ill be pre-ordering the new machine come hell or highwater.

Winning the Lotto (or some big inheritance)!!! If someone already wrote this or something very similar, I haven't read any comments yet, so I'm not copying! :-P Yeah, as much as I want nice tech ASAP my budget at the time may not allow it at launch. Well I'll have to wait and see, perhaps if not at launch, next year and probably by the time it gets a price cut and/or size reduction (like usual and that's when I usually get a PS). I will probably have games though, before the actual PS4.

A one year, same day, in store replacement warranty for machines that crash. No questions or payments to make, they hook it up at the store and if it's locked up, swap it out. Theirs almost always problems in new consoles, I don't want to have to send mine off for 2 months to have it fixed.

Prior to the reveal, I wasn't sure about whether I'd be there day one or not, but post-reveal, I'm saving to be there at launch. Drive Club and Killzone both look great, Watch Dogs has oodles of potential, and Knack looks like my cup of tea. While there was no BIRDS OF STEEL in the reveal, I'll cut it some slack ;).

Seriously, though, it looks like a great piece of kit that'll have a great launch line-up of games that I'd like to play (and I'm sure we'll hear of more games at E3). Would be surprised if any gamer didn't want a PS4, even though they may not want to buy it at whatever the launch price is. The trick is to accept that the past is the past, and value the system for what it is, rather than what it isn't. Sure, I'd have preferred backwards compatibility, but in practice I rarely use it, and the value of the new system and games far outweights the loss of B/C. And other than B/C, everything else is exceptional :D.

I had the opposite reaction. Sony had to convince me NOT to get the PS4 at launch and they did.

Day one purchase here!!! Watch Dogs just looks awesome! Killzone looks great and hopefully will look better by launch and if there is an Uncharted 4, oh man! I can't wait to play it!!! New control looks more comfortable with the smal adjustments, a little fix goes a long way.

InFamous "3" already has my eye, now as long as the price isn't something too horrible, some amount I can successfully save up for, I will definently be getting a PS4 on launch day. I'm looking forward to several of the other launch games already announced, I just hope I can save up enough money for them all...

Fair price, multiple good games at launch all being a different genre and a guarantee of a good steady flow of good games all being different genres after launch so there's never a drought. That and oh of course not charging for things that should be free like online play, access to services, exactly how PSN is now.

-The right price.
-A bunch of great looking, fun, launch day, all new, exclusive games.
-Multiple simultaneous accounts log/sign ins support.
-Online play staying free.
-The DualShock 4 being backwards compatible as in that it also works with the PS3 (just with all the new features disabled when used with it since it wouldn't support them anyways)
-All up-to-date tech (it apparently will come with Bluetooth 2.1; the newest one, which already is more than 2 years old, is 4.0)

-Free access to streams of PSX/PS2/PS3 games one already owns, by one inserting its game and the optical disc drive detecting if it's original and which game it is as well as Gaikai knowing which games one has purchased digitally (since it would be linked to one's PSN account).
-Continuous support of 'PS Home' (Sony never mentioned anything about it at the conference, and they talked a lot about the PS4's social features, so 'Home' should have been one of the main central components of that, hopefully they're not dropping it), maybe even taking it out of beta soon.

-And, no 'PS Move 2'? remember the "temperature feedback" patent? it would be awesome if Sony releases both the Move and the DualShock 4 with this technology, and also they should make the new Move (if they do end up releasing it) PS3 backwards compatible as well.

The ability to not have to throw away all the stuff I bought for the PS3. If I can't put a PS3 game into a PS4 game and play it, which has been stated as a big fat no, I wont be getting on for at least the first 4 years.

nothing... i'll get in a few years when i can afford it. I'm more then fine with my PS3 for the time being.. i didn't get one till 2010, and since i have a very small budget for games, i have several dozen games i've yet to get , not counting ones coming out this year.. i'll be set with PS3 and PS2 classic games for years to come.

TOTAL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY. i am sick and tired of sony's bull saying they cant do backwards compatibility on their machines and then put the software out for download on their store. i should not have to rebuy a game that i already have a disk for. sure you may say just get an older system but since they are not being made anymore they will be harder to replace once they break down, also who needs the clutter of having multiple machines anyway.

What most people don't know, is that "every" game system that became successful was because of Traditional RPG's. If I had the time I could list them all for you, those that didn't make it. Therefore, for me, it would be a Traditional RPG, Turned Based, and maybe even another Dragon Quest or how about Breath of Fire, Rainbow Moon II (Rainbow Skies) would be nice for a starter, Shining Force III (all 3 games in English), Grandia, and many others.

Dragon Age and Assassin's Creed are really the only games I play a lot of anymore and AC4 will be out for PS3. I don't have much interest in all the new features of the PS4, some are pretty cool but I wouldn't really use them so I don't see myself buying this machine for some time if at all.
