Destiny's So Big, You'll Never Be "Done"

Well, of course you won't "finish" it, per se. It's a multiplayer-oriented shooter that's a borderline MMO.

But Bungie wanted to make sure you understood the size and scope of Destiny. Community Manager David "Deej" Dague tried to make this plain during a new Best Buy Google Hangout.

When asked how many hours of gameplay we can expect, Dague didn't give an exact number but he did say you're not likely to ever "finish" the adventure. He mentions a lot of "expansive outdoor locations" along with indoor dungeon-type spaces; players can visit destinations on Mars, Venus and the Moon. Then there's the Strike missions, the multiplayer Crucible, and a bunch of story missions.

Said Dague:

"If you're a speed-runner, and all you want to do is blaze through and complete one story mission after one story mission, you're really just scratching the surface, because the Strikes add such an extra level of complexity."

He added that the minute you think you're done, that's when someone else buys the game for the first time, and then there's a new ass to kick. This is what will give Destiny its incredible longevity, and we're willing to bet that gamers will play for many, many hours...

The fun starts on September 9.

I feel cool being part of what could be seen as the biggest advent in modern videogaming in years.

I spent over an hour exlporing the moon and thought I had found it all. I was seriously wrong. I only found around 20% of it.

Good. Running around and getting lost is one of the most entertaining parts to open world games.

I do the same in real life sometimes but that comes without the save point and re spawn option it's just not the same.

I hate when I die in RL and don't respawn.

will you quit any job, destroy any relationship, eat horrible junk food for days on end, and deprive yourself of sleep just to have that platinum trophy?

I hope it's able to stay fun. I know borderlands always had the problem of imbalance. If you didn't go through areas in just the right order, You'll find yourself in a new area with weak enemies and crap loot. That was especially a problem in the dlc. Hopefully bungie will keep that kind of thing in check.

Actually that's not entirely correct. Certain areas in Borderlands had weaker enemies and some had stronger, same for weapon drops. The area in general dictates that. However the game constantly tries to balance that by npc's and weapons leveling with you. It's the practical thing otherwise every enemy would be equivalent and how ridiculous would that be?!

That's actually my worry with this game. Is it won't quite have the content everyone is expecting and players will dictate game play rather than missions, side missions, and other content that could keep players busy.
