JRPG Lovers Get Dragon Quest Heroes, Disgaea 5, Ys Sequel
Okay, so there's no guarantee that all three will come to North America or Europe, but at least we know the games will exist.
During Sony's pre-TGS press conference, they announced a trio of new JRPGs, along with a new Persona 5 update.
First on the list is Dragon Quest Heroes, currently in the works at Dynasty Warriors developer Omega Force. It's coming to the PlayStation 4 and it'll be the first time a Dragon Quest title of any kind graced a Sony platform since 2005's fantastic Dragon Quest VIII. The only downside to this news? This is an "action-oriented spin-off" akin to Nintendo's Hyrule Warriors. Yeah, that might damage the news just a tad if you're an old-school fan.
Next up is Disgaea 5, which was probably inevitable. Nippon Ichi Software announced it for the PS4 with a 2015 launch window in Japan; you can check out the official website if you're so inclined. Of the three games listed here, this is the most likely candidate to get a Western release. US gamers have seen all the Disgaeas over the years, even if they've had to wait a bit longer.
Last but certainly not least is Nihon Falcom's new Ys RPG for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. This is also slated to release some time next year, although we don't know much about it. This is one of the most acclaimed JRPG franchises in history, even if it hasn't received a tremendous amount of love outside Japan. We can't wait to learn more about this one.
