Disgaea 5: An Ambitious Entry That PS3 Couldn't Handle
If you're a big fan of the acclaimed Disgaea series, listen up.
Following this weekend's announcement of Disgaea 5, the first next-gen franchise entry, publisher Nippon Ichi Software has given all you strategy/RPG lovers more info.
According to the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation magazine (as translated by Gematsu), players will assume the role of a demon boy named Kiria, who seeks revenge against Demon Emperor Void Dark. Seraphine joins Kiria on his quest; she's a princess of the Gorgeous Underworld. As you might expect, the game will boast a bunch of crazy characters.
If you're wondering why Disgaea 5 isn't coming to the PlayStation 3, NIS president Sohei Niikawa offered the following explanation:
"We thought about going multi-platform with PlayStation 3, but doing so would've made the PS3 the standard. Since we're making it, I want to be able to offer something that could only be done with the PlayStation 4."
Niikawa added that the new effort will boast 100 characters on screen simultaneously, which is a lot more than a PS3 version, which would only be able to handle 10. Sounds juicy! Disgaea 5 is scheduled to arrive in Japan in the Spring of 2015; no word yet on when it'll come stateside.
