Destiny Might Outsell Grand Theft Auto V
Last year, for the first time in a while, a Call of Duty game wasn't atop the year-end sales chart.
In fact, it was the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto V, which broke all sorts of sales records when it launched. Now, Destiny is looming large on the horizon and the question is simple: Will it outsell Rockstar's immense blockbuster?
Analysts say Bungie's game could sell 15 million copies in 2014 alone, which would definitely put it in GTAV's wheelhouse. Considering all the factors, it doesn't seem impossible for Destiny to break all the records GTAV set. Its biggest hurdle, obviously, is that it's a new IP and GTA is...well, GTA. However, we're looking at a shared-world, multiplayer-oriented shooter that ticks all the boxes of current industry trends. Bungie went and combined the most popular features in gaming today and now, they're looking to produce a gargantuan title. Gamers are eagerly champing at the bit, too.
Also, don't forget that Destiny is supposed to be an ongoing experience, so perhaps it's inevitable that it'll outsell GTAV in the course of its lifespan, which, according to Activision, might last ten years. Yes, ten years. Can you see yourself playing the same game for that long?
