PS4 Is Now The Second-Fastest Selling Console In UK History

PlayStation has always fared well in Europe and the PlayStation 4 is no exception.

The PS4 has exploded out of the gate in the UK and according to MCV, it has become the second fastest-selling video game console in the region's history.

Sony's next-gen console hit one million in total sales only 42 weeks after launching. In comparison, the PS2 (which eventually became the best-selling console of all time, with around 160 million sold worldwide), didn't reach the milestone until after 50 weeks at market. The Xbox 360 required 60 weeks. Only the Nintendo Wii has topped them all, hitting one million in just 38 weeks.

Of course, the difference is that the Wii was a fad - as I always said it was - which sold like crazy for a few years and then you couldn't give one away. Obviously, the PS4's appeal will last much longer, so the PS4 could end up becoming the best-selling game system in the UK.

Wow, surprised to here this, I mean the industry has taken strides in popularity within the last decade but still. I mean I am still not sold on the PS4 due to the lack of titles. However, I am sure The Phantom Pain will reel me in, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy are what define gaming for me so I just don't think I can settle for MGS5:TPP on PS3. If I ever sell my Wii-U after begin let done by the next Xenoblade, I will be certain to get one for it.

Well most recently it was Final Fantasy X HD - Great game but a horrible remastering of the soundtrack. I don't think I can bare play X-2 though... many infuriating memories of that game. But for me the peak of Final Fantasy is VI - X I regard all them games so highly. The only FF's from the main series I have not played are 2,3 & 5. I have 2 on PSP which I just need to get around to along with 3 on DS, but Final Fantasy V has yet to have a good re-release sadly - the one on iOS looks like a poorly made flash game, unlike IV on the PSP which retains the 16-bit feel but looks gorgeous.

MY FF first love was with FFVI. I watched my brother play the first hour with that then-incredible intro and I traded him my rare Magic The Gathering card to play it first.

Nice, a worthy trade for such an experience. I am ashamed to admit I only completed VI recently, but I easily regard it as FF on top form. For me VII was the first I saw but VIII was the first I experienced for myself and it was an amazing experience at that :) The only modern equivalent that comes kind of close was playing Xenoblade: Chronicles on the Wii - which just brought everything I loved about the JRPG genre and completed revived it for me. I had high hopes for the Wii-U sequel but they have ruined it by having you create a character and if there is on thing I cannot stand in games it is silent protagonists. I know your meant to step into the characters shoes, but all I see is a blank avatar who is just awkward. I understand how it was a technical limitation but Mass Effect proved we're beyond that now... ... rant over :P

And not to mention the Wii sold for $250 (euro convert that) the PS4 should pat itself on the back for kicking butt.

The Wii sold for £179 in the UK ($289).

Both consoles experience shortages at launch.
