Is Destiny Truly Revolutionary?
It's a very bold word: Revolutionary.
The problem is that if you ask ten gamers, you'll probably get ten different definitions for the word. Some believe a developer would have to issue an entirely new form of interaction, while others simply believe that if the game is groundbreaking - even with tried-and-true mechanics - it can still earn that lofty label.
So, after many months of hype and increasingly ridiculous expectations, would you say that Destiny qualifies as a revolutionary title? It's a shooter at heart and that's nothing new, so we can't say we got a completely innovative game. On the other hand, perhaps the combination of elements, from the shared-world environment to the RPG-like features, makes it revolutionary...or at least evolutionary? The FPS genre has been in desperate need of something like this for a long time, right? Wouldn't you consider it a step in the right direction?
Of course, even if you do, that still may not qualify as "revolutionary."
