Source: PS4 Doubles Xbox One Sales

Provided they trust the source, Sony fans will love these numbers.

According to VGChartz, the PlayStation 4 leads the next-gen race by a healthy margin. In fact, in looking at the lifetime sales, it has sold twice as many units as Microsoft's Xbox One.

The numbers, if accurate, look like this:

  • PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 10,191,770
  • Xbox One Total Sales: 5,131,517
  • Wii U Total Sales: 7,130,356

Those might be just about right, as Sony recently confirmed that the PS4 had indeed passed the 10 million mark worldwide. It's also important to note that the Wii U launched a year before the PS4 and Xbox One, so that 7 million+ number is that much less impressive. As for monthly sales, the PS4 tops the list at 583,861, while the Xbox One is at 239,808 and the Wii U is at 214,210.

Can Sony maintain its large lead? The PS4 has outsold the competition each and every month it has been available, so...

Awesome news for Sony. Too bad they are forecasting enormous loses for the mobile division.

Fingers crossed for not having any more studios affected, or closed.

They simply need to advertise their Xperia phones in the US especially the Z3's PS4 remote play feature and actually release it to US carriers this time around unlike the Z2 which if you were American only way to get it was off contract for around $800 off of the official Sony site.

I'm pretty certain I read recently that MS's Xbox One sales doubled, once again, in America last month. That's great and all how price drops can do that but it makes me wonder just how far behind MS has been all this time.
If July saw a 2x increase and so too did August, yet Xbox One was still never ever to take a month from Sony stateside it makes me think Sony has quite the lead everywhere.

EDIT: It also seems likely MS will take 2nd. Seeing that the Wii U has had such a big headstart MS is only 2 million down from eclipsing Nintendo in under a year's time.

Looking at those monthly sales numbers, MS isn't selling much more than the Wii U per month, just a 25,000 unit difference. At that pace, it would take MS over 6 years to gain that ground of 2 million Wii Us. I'm sure MS will do something to compel consumers though. I expect that more from MS than I do Nintendo.

Wii U has some heavy hitters coming up, including Smash Bros, the new Zelda, Xenoblade C.X., the new Star Fox, Bayonnetta 2, etc. Zelda alone is enough to move consoles, so it'll be interesting to see how well they stand against each other.

It'll be interesting to watch, of course.
This is the thing. Wii U can only sink in price so far given that the hardware is expensive to produce. Nintendo has acknowledged that already.
It's quite likely the Xbox One can drop another $150 within 2 years (ps4 could too) and likely open itself up to a much wider audience.
I feel like Nintendo's best bet from here on with the Wii U is to sustain their core with strong first party titles and carefully plan their next move while in the process.

Yeah, I think they should release their elite titles and start planning their next move. I can't see how they can stay in the fight in 2 years after they have exhausted the main entries for their first party franchises.

It'll be interesting to see what happens when this news/feeling hits the mainstream gamer. They still don't know yet.

It'll be interesting to see how the holiday sales pan out. Spefically all the bundles that are out or coming out, Destiny for PS4, and Madden, CoD, and Sunset Overdrive for Xbox.

When's the Pc version of sunset overdrive?

Cause most of the "exclusives" xbox has, most will be going to pc soon so I'll get a chance to try it out.

also, who would buy minecraft for 2.5 billion dollars? The game barely made 150 million. Everyone ready for the biggest xbox one exclusive "Halocraft"?

Theres a RARE chance Mojang will come under the same fate as another company...trying to remember their names. They made banjo kazooie though. hm...
