TGS 2014: 20 Min. MGSV Trailer Boasts Snake, Quiet

Hideo Kojima promised we'd see a lot more of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain at the Tokyo Game Show.

Well, he was right: Here's a gameplay trailer that offers 20 minutes of diverse, entertaining footage. Both Solid Snake and new partner Quiet (the scantily clad, light-stepping soldier) are involved in the action here, and we get a great look at the environment.

It appears to be quite large, certainly larger than any previous entry in the series, and Snake has a wide array of weapons and nifty gadgets. There's also some destructability as well, as we see Snake destroy a bridge with a grenade launcher. Sure, there's a lot of standing around while the Japanese commentary runs but you still see plenty.

Looks like great fun. The best thing about this series is that every single core installment feels like a worthy overhaul to the franchise. It makes each entry feel special and worthwhile. This is in stark contrast to the annualized stuff we're given all the time from other ips.

In addition to you reading my mind -- it's important to note that it would probably take two Hideo Kojimas to release an MGS every year lol.

He's what I would call a perfectionist that sincerely cares about putting out the best that he (and his team) could. Others just care about putting out XYZ title and seeing the masses run out to get it.

What exactly is the order someone should play these games? I ask because this game looks like fun and I've never really put much time into any of the past MGS games.

I know I know...I'm a piece of $hit.

As far story is concerned?

I would say

MGS3: Snake Eater
MGS: Portable Ops
MGS: Peace Walker
MGS5
MGS1
MGS2
MGS4

Any other MGS fans correct me if I'm wrong.

How I played it was

MGS1
MGS2
MGS3: Snake Eater
MGS: Portable Ops
MGS4
MGS5

Sadly I have yet to play Peace Walker.

The problem with playing 3 first is that you don't really understand the impact of the philosophers legacy. So I would honestly would just play them in release order.

Another way to look at playing through the series. Since this is part of Big Boss' storyline and you're thinking of playing it in order timeline wise:

MGS3
MGS: Portable Ops* (optional, since they don't make much reference to this one anymore)
MGS: Peace Walker
MGS Ground Zeroes* (right before Phantom Pain, so you can do this whenever until then)
MG1 + 2 (Starting games with Solid Snake, found when you load MGS3 on HD Collection)
MGS1
MGS2
MGS4

I can't believe how this game has barely any attention on this site, the metal gear saga is amazing and The Phantom Pain has the potential to be one of the best game a of not on,y the series but of all time, I mean the gameplay is just so damn diverse, I genuinely can't believe how much they have crammed into this game! And the narrative is what many have been longing for since MGS3 so I just cannot wait, I am buying a Playstation 4 for this game.

True, but what concerns me more is the lack of comments co paired to other games, I really haven't seen any game next gen come close to being as diverse and huge, really mad stoked for this.

There's not much to say on what is looking to already be a good game with favorable reviews regardless given the series' reputation. That's my biased long-time series loving take on it.

I always hype myself up for new Metal Gear Solid games...never disappointed. This beats my MGS4 hypeness meter. Wake me up when it releases.
