PSXE Poll Update: Most Gamers Are Satisfied With Destiny

As one would expect given the ongoing controversy, the results were tight.

In our recent poll, the majority of participants said the recently released Destiny was everything they'd hoped for and more, but a great many said the game was only good or merely decent, which seems about right.

While the game has its fair share of fans, the critical reception hasn't been exactly glowing. Many of the top publications have tossed up disappointing review scores, and those 6s and 7s have gotten people talking. Some will claim the expectations of such critics were simply too high, or the criticism is unfairly harsh. Others say Destiny is a flat-out disappointment that is both repetitive and uninspired.

But getting away from Bungie's blockbuster for a minute, if you don't own a PlayStation 4 yet, why? The global sales count has passed 10 million but if you're not one of the current owners, we're assuming you have a reason. Let us know!

Destiny is fun and successful cuz people like it when you put them in a functioning game with their friends. Borderlands games have big empty emptiness and the same mission over and over again too.

I share the same sentiments. Although, I wouldn't say Borderlands games are totally void of anything. In fact, the NPCs and overall wackiness almost makes up for any lack of actual human interaction and representation that Destiny has.

Destiny is good for the reason you stated. Friends. But seriously, you think Borderlands is empty? And even if so, that's borderline ridiculous. Borderlands is so far from being empty.

Borderlands has vast places to roam, where Destiny makes you feel like your in a large area but you could traverse t he whole area in less time than it would take to complete a mission. Borderlands has enemies in many more places, and side missions to pick up along the way. Destiny has patrols, that are essentially go to point A, and clear this area and for what reason? There's no outcome except for experience. In Borderlands you reap the rewards XP and loot of side missions along with knowing you've accomplished something through dialogue. Something else Destiny is missing.

And while at times you may do a similar mission, (Basically because there's hundreds) never once does it feel redundant because of the story, dialogue, enemy variations, strategic fire fights, loot, XP, abilities, friends, freedom (much more than destiny), map variations and vastly differing areas, and creativeness. Something any mission in Destiny won't have more than 2 things from that list.

I'm not saying that makes Destiny bad because like I said I'm having fun and I'm playing with friends. But to use Borderlands as a way to try and justify it being okay for Destiny is nuts. I already know of your disinterest in Borderlands, I'm assuming that's where this is coming from. I fear you just didn't play it enough. Where I'm level 22 in Destiny and logged *days* into 2 different characters in Borderlands. The two games are very different and very far apart.

I agree with bigrailer. Destiny is fun, but really it lacks variety in every department, story, gameplay, loot, environments etc.

Borderlands was brimming with lore and personality, Destiny has decent lore if you want to exit the game and read the grimoire, but most of the story missions are characters saying how they don't have time to explain anything to you, the speaker does this, the stranger, and the queen.

I agree with World that Borderlands is the same stuff over and over again, but there are lots of rewards for doing that stuff, not the chance at like one reward maybe not even for your class after an hour long minute strike.

That non-sense aside, tons of RPGs coming out for the vita. TGS was full of vita games. Might give me a reason to play it again.

I think Destiny is catching more flack than it deserves. There's certainly a higher calling do this game, it's just unfortunate we didn't see it from the start with very little to keep any person who likes story and leveling happy. While some people argue it opens up after level 20, I felt jipped. No more leveling? Only gaining level through light armor? And then to tell me I have to replay all the missions I did on a higher level just to get that armor? And why? So I can rap lay those same missions again at an even higher level? Come on...

But in the end I see the vision and I will keep playing for the Co op and because I will be involved in any DLC for it so long as my companions are there with me. I've sort of relaxed a bit and am taking it for what it is and not what it was thought to be. While it's obvious some things still frustrate me, I've been enjoying leveling with friends.

I have never yelled at team deathmatch or zone control like I have in this game. That isn't to say I don't like it, but I really get into it for some reason. I have also never been flanked so much in a game either. I do wish the hand cannon reward was a little better, and then there's the shot gun. Sometimes it's a one hit, and sometimes it's just screw you buddy. I think that might be the overall theme of the game for me. The rewards never pay up as much as you expect they will. Take exploration for example. You're riding around in Russia and you come across a path you've never taken and it leads to a cave of some high level enemies, and that's it. No loot, no weapon or armor cache. no "building materials". Just a path that ends in some spot you've been at before on a previous mission and that's it. As I said before, I like the game, but it's kind of crappy about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.......colored horde.

Simply in 2014 the PS4 has nothing to offer me, however I know 2015 is the game changer! With The Phantom Pain and Final Fantasy: Type-0 set for the first half of the year I will be sure to have one ready. TGS got me excited for gaming again with both my favourite gaming series shooting full steam ahead. So for this year I bought a new tv I preparation for the Ps4

My response was in answer to the question at the bottom and the new poll. Couldn't care less about Destiny, it's really out of my radar of interest entirely. (Also, I didn't down vote you btw :P)

destinys meh, perfect example of why i hate online games.
really cant see the hype this was getting, but then thats the media these days hype everything to kingdom come, then come release dump all over it.

as for the ps4, should put the real reason up, no games!
no big franchises have released on it yet, i mean the biggest most popular franchise which has released so far is killzone, and thats hardly playstations biggest franchise!
if anything its one of its smallest!
does not help that the best of its games are HD remakes of last gen games.
no one is going to spend 550+ bucks, plus another 100+ bucks for each game they want, so they can play games they have spent the last year playing just with slightly better graphics.
$ony REALLY needs to pull their finger out and start announcing what some of their studios are working on!
i mean the fact that we have more xbox one exclusives to look forward to over the next 2 months , not to mention M$ has what, 1/10th the first party studios as $ony? is just pathetic!

The more I play Destiny the more I start seeing all of the things that are terribly wrong with it. Now I'm saying this however I am still playing it and having "fun" but I can have fun with a 10 dollar horde style shooter on Steam called Killing Floor.

For what we paid for, and this game was 70 dollars on the PS4, we got severely ripped off. Barely any weapon and armor variety, a terribly under developed narrative, a broken RNG loot system, boss fights that all play out the same and are bullet sponges with not variation or attack pattern changes, a tiny world, and well much more.

I know Ben you don't like to say that games cut things for the sake of DLC but man, the more I play this and hear stuff like, "I could tell you about this" or "I don't have time to explain, but this is only just beginning" then I see the little DLC leaflet in the case it makes me cringe.

The story seriously never even close to resolves the arc it started, we have no information on the traveler, enemy motives, etc, no history of the world the old wars etc.

Its a game that is 100% exposition with no pay off, also notice how they just put THE in front of everything in Destiny, I dunno it seems like poor writing and world building to me, I wouldn't mind if they used The traveler but literally every enemy has The slapped in front of it, and every main place of interest or person of interest.

Now if this was an MMO and I knew they would be giving me free updates that expanded the story changed the gameplay etc I wouldn't be so upset, but I can almost guarantee that to get any more story its goin to be in paid DLC "expansions" which is just a joke. Which means if you bought the expansions and the game at launch it is a game that costs you over 100 bucks.....and its not even close to worth that in its current state or the state that the DLC will put it in.

Bosses, don't drop loot, you can't trade items for other classes that you can't use, bosses lack variety, gameplay in the strikes is just horde mode defend the ghost 90% of the time, where is the platforming, puzzles, stealth etc that could be in there? Oh right they saved it all for the Vault of Glass, they put all their good ideas in that one raid instead of making the whole game leading up to that raid varied and interesting.

I still am enjoying the game for what it is, but it is in no way worth 70 bucks.

I love this game. But this is like an rpg and you have to farm for materials to make your armors better, and weapons too for that matter.
