Huge Unity Season Pass Includes A 2.5D Side-Scrolling Game

Ubisoft never skimps on the extra content.

The publisher has announced the Assassin's Creed Unity Season Pass, which will include access to new missions, weapons, equipment, abilities, and even an entirely new AC adventure set in China. The Pass will retail for $30.

First up is the Dead Kings story campaign DLC, which takes place after the events of the main narrative. Protagonist Arno leaves Paris and "finds himself wrapped up in the mysteries surrounding Saint Denis," and he'll embark on a quest that sends him to the city's famous underground tunnels. It'll be dark and intimidating; quite the opposite of the airiness of above-ground locations. Arno will gain access to the new Guillotine Gun for this mission, and he can try new side missions, too.

The Dead Kings expansion will feature fresh activities like treasure hunts, murder mysteries, and contracts, along with new co-op missions. More new equipment can be unlocked as you progress, so this sounds like a pretty beefy piece of DLC. Creative Director Alex Amancio says "this is truly the darkest story that we've ever told on the franchise," so it could have some serious horror elements!

Then comes the game called Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, which is a standalone story set in 16th-century China. This is a 2.5D side-scrolling adventure that stars an Assassin by the name of Shao Jun, a female character fans first met in the "Assassin's Creed Embers" animated film. Shao Jun was initially trained by Ezio Auditore, and she returns to Beijing as the last remaining Assassin in the Chinese brotherhood. The cool part is that the art style was inspired by traditional brush paintings.

The latter game was developed by Climax Studios, who most recently put out the PC version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. As for whether or not Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China will be available outside of the Season Pass, a Ubisoft representative told GameSpot: "Right now the only way to get access to Chronicles is through the Season Pass."

This DLC will also deliver over 30 new items to the main Unity experience, and you'll even get the special Fleur de Lys sword on launch day. All this content is slated to arrive in "early 2015," so you better dive right in after the game launches in November!

Is this Ubisofts way of satisfying those who want an AC game based in Asia?

I've been begging for an Assassin's Creed to be set in Feudal Japan for like... ever!

If they made an Assassin's Creed set in China during the 'Romance of the Three Kingdoms' era, it would be absolutely epic... but would also probably span 3 or 4 games.

Of course Chronicles is going to be made available outside of the season pass... They updated Liberation, they made Freedom Cry into a standalone release, and this is an entirely new game unrelated to pretty much anything prior, in the vein of what the fans have been clamouring for for years. Of course they'll release it alone later. I just wonder if it's running on the UbiArt Framework, or a new engine...

And the expansion to the main game sounds pretty cool too. Heaps of content. May get when I get around to getting Unity, and a PS4...

I also notice you didn't mention the snippet that pre-ordering the Season Pass gets you exclusive access to another weapon... I'd say that's equal parts amusing and disgusting.

I'm a sucker for co-op gaming, so I'm very likely going to grab Unity.
The only question is... do I also grab the Season Pass as well? I guess it really depends on my co-op friends. If they're in, then I'm in. =)
