The Top Destiny Players Are On Xbox: Gee, I Wonder Why
These are the kinds of results that always make me laugh.
I know people just love to believe that all gamers are exactly the same and platform preference doesn't indicate any specific personal opinions. Of course, this would imply that all platforms perform exactly the same in each genre, which is ridiculous, but whatever.
People are freaking out because of an article that shows that Destiny players on Xbox are easily outstripping their PlayStation counterparts. Why? What's so surprising about that? Of course that's going to happen. More PS4 copies of the game have been sold - mostly due to exclusive timed DLC and continual Sony marketing - but that doesn't change the facts:
Look, Xbox has always had its roots in shooters and action games. The brand's defining franchise is Halo. Perhaps the second best-known franchise is a third-person shooter, Gears of War. Call of Duty has been far more popular on Xbox ever since Modern Warfare, for the most part. Xbox is a more mainstream console, whether people want to accept that or not. Mainstream = shooting and action. Want a test? Go to the midnight launch of any huge shooter like a CoD, and see what percentage of people standing in line are getting the Xbox version.
PlayStation has always been more versatile and more diverse. Its franchises range widely and encompass just about every category of gaming. And therefore, it attracts gamers with diverse tastes; it always has. So, if those playing the Xbox versions of Destiny are better, that's mostly because a lot of those gamers are simply more into shooters and action games in general. And by the way, there's nothing wrong with that. It's just the way things are.
