Final Fantasy XV Is 55 Percent Complete

Square Enix is aware of how long it's taking to make this game.

That much is evident in the words of director Hajime Tabata. Speaking during a recent Tokyo Game Show interview, Tabata confirmed the anticipated title is approximately 55 percent complete.

But, he adds, don't get cute with the math:

"It's about 55 percent complete, but the quality of the demo itself, compared to the final product, is about 80 percent."

And when asked if that meant the game would take another 8 years, Tabata responded:

"Definitely not. I'm afraid we can't say how long it's going to take from here. But, since the transition to XV, we've gotten this far in two years."

Tabata further clarified that he assumed the role of director on FFXV two years ago, when the project shifted from PS3 to PS4. At that time, they "reevaluated the development team, the development structure, and the process." He's excited about putting out the playable demo in March of next year, because he wants "to bring it to the fans as quickly as possible." Well sure, after eight years, they're probably a little antsy.

Previously, Square Enix confirmed that if you took your time, that demo could span 3-4 hours.

Re-structuring? Is that because the big dudes quit Square Enix and you guys took Nomura off of his game?

I don't even want to know how the **** its even only at 55% too. At this point, this is just another FF13 sequel which, like Lightning Returns, I will not touch with 95foot pole.

What the actual hell is going on over at Square Enix?

If you read his article, you'd know that he's working WITH Novara to retain the ideology that was expressed in Versus.

His 55% figure isn't based off of a product yet to be developed. It is based off of the overhaul for the title. It's not say that development will take as long as a game that hasn't established many fundamental aspects.

Also worth noting are his interests in creating another Type- game for the franchise and wanting to significantly reduce development cycles.

My only gripe with his view is that I'm not interested in what he's trying to deliver. The combat system literally ruins everything they're trying to accomplish for me. I'm walking away thinking "sandbox" instead of RPG.

These are just horrible criminals who don't deserve to be anywhere near the franchise that their predecessors created. I want ritual suicides, for various reasons, the length of this game's development being low on that list actually.

Putting out this demo doesn't even make any sense, why get people vamped for some shiz that isn't anywhere near completion?

8 years, 2 years, 55%, 80%, and whatever other numbers they want to throw around don't matter when we have a mountain of evidence that this thing is a mortal mess going nowhere fast.

Love it world - if it's not good enough the developers have to commit harakiri.
True it would force them to make what the fans want, but it's a little extreme mate.

Wasn't their an article recently that said it was approximately 65% done? So is the game now undeveloping itself?

I don't know if this game will ever actually come out, but if it does I just don't know what to think of it.

They basically are saying here's a demo for a game that is barely half finished. It may be 80% quality, but uggghh whatever.

Well this shows me that it will be bigger and better than Lightning returns, that game was made in what a year and a half?

I honestly hope they take there time with it and deliver something that regardless of your take on the combat system feels like a final fantasy game, in story structure, quest structure etc.

If its a huge world to explore, side quests to discover, hidden bosses, mini games etc it will be worth the 4 year dev cycle(assuming it only takes another 2 to come out).

Broady hit the nail on the head. Jackieboy I was talking about 4 years since the switch to the PS4, which other than combat code, and stuff like that they probably had to rewrite the whole engine, or port it to the FF14 engine.

Yes, since Versus XIII became XV and has been guided tot he PS4 the project has essentially started fresh. It's sad Nomura has left the project, I get the impression the game wont be as 'dak' as it was originally precieved but the TGS trailer was utterly delightful. I love the road trip build of the adventure and I'm looking forward to get my mits on it. I am actually hopeful on a 2016 release, now way will we get it next year but I will be certainly curious to try out this 3-4 hour demo with Type-0

Also, looking at the TGS gameplay demonstration, the menus are still within this game! they disappeared for the TSG trailer but they're still within the game. So the combat with be close to the experience of Kingdom Hearts, which as far as action RPG's go the controls are pretty much perfect on KH. It coming and I think S-E knows the expectations we have on this game and from what I have seen from TGS I am optimistic.

Na, I'd still rant. I miss my JRPGs. Now if I want to play one it has to be laced in bizarre dialogue and subpar everything.

Yeah, that too! It's a shame that the best JRPGs to come out in the past five years have been on handheld.

My best JRPG experience in the last few years has been on the Wii. Xenoblade: Chronicles trumped everything else on the ps3 and brought back everything I had been yearning from about the genre - a fun world to explore, grande adventure, a story and characters you care for,am wonderful score and plenty of enemies to conquer. It was the full JRPG experience i adored back on the Playstation 1 with the Final Fantasy trio and is the reason the Wii is still plugged up to my HDTV today ( Though I highly recommend another JRPG in The Last Story and Pandora's Tower for a 3D castlevania experience)

If you like strategy JRPGs, Natural Doctrine could do it for you (currently reviewing). It may be of interest to Valkyria Chronicles fans as well.

Yeah, Vivi, I really do want to play Xenoblade Chronicles someday.

Unfortunately, it's the only game I pine for on the Wii, and I can't really justify another console purchase. I hope someday I can go back to it if the opportunity presents itself.

I say bullcrap
We all know when Microsoft buys off an exclusivity they become the center of the world. The PS4 version was obviously very far in development then. So I'd say PS4 90% and XBOXONE 20%, which makes 55% average.
