So If FFXV Is Announced For The PS4 At E3, What Do You Expect?
So after Square Enix irritated everyone by showing up at the PlayStation Meeting to show off an 8-month-old tech demo, and announced they'd be making an announcement E3, they had better impress people.
At this point, we should all just accept that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is dead and buried. Either that or it has morphed into Final Fantasy XV. No matter what, though, the only announcement the fans will be happy with come E3 is FFXV for next-generation consoles. And if that happens, what do you expect?
It's hard to say. There's zero chance we'll get anything even remotely resembling the traditional Final Fantasy gameplay, so get that out of your head. One can only hope they'll return to actual role-playing; with a solo heroine and all sorts of real-time action in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, there's reason to be concerned. But let's say they do make FFXV a real RPG...what Western RPGs do you expect it to emulate? Of course it will; it's just a matter of which. Perhaps The Elder Scrolls and its huge expansive landscapes, or maybe Dragon Age with its more linear, party-based approach. I could go with either, I suppose.
Maybe choice will be implemented, too. Who knows what to expect from FFXV at this point? Maybe "Agni's Philosophy" is FFXV. ...but anyway, what do you think FFXV will be like?

You could expect FFX HD, the KH HD's, and vs13 released by the end of the year. Not to mention a port of Lost Oddesey to the ps3 and vita. Yeah, i would make it happen. Something they should have done but instead announce more crap when they should FINISH what they started. God nothing irratates me more than SE. If their going to become publishers, fine. Give FF away to someone who isnt going to *#ore it out for extra money.

Why, I'm glad you ask.
X for jump
Square for light attack
Triangle for heavy attack
Circle for special skills
Yea, need I say more??!????!?!?!??!?!
As if I'd expect anything more from SE now!!!
Before FFXIII came out I was super pumped for it.
Now I feel like not giving a darn for FFXV.

But one can always *hope*. And to be honest, what I hope for from a Japanese RPG is something pretty similar to White Knight Chronicles, only *better*. Take WKC and lift it up quite a few notches across the entire board. That would make one hell of an interesting JRPG for me.

That being said, I'd be as shocked as if I'd woken up with my face sown to the carpet if they even gave us that much. I really don't think my faith in SE, as a dev, could be any lower than it is right now. In fact, I'd bet my last dollar that SE would make XV be somehow connected to the XIII series before they put out a game that longtime fans of the franchise would enough.

So when it comes to my expectations, even after this Lightning Returns garbage, I still expect big things from S-E. This to me should be the biggest selling point of the Playstation 4. I can except changes within the series, series do need room to breathe and evlolve but I want a true JRPG experience. I want them to reveal a new huge fantasy world I can explore. Deep and compelling characters who I can get attached to and share their motives for their quest. Is a World Map essential? No but I still want their to be a world to explore. I don't mind if it is even in a sense like 'X' and there is a one way road to progress, if the story is absorbing enough I shouldn't even notice.
Then there is the gameplay. I can accept the ATB is gone. But I look at games like The Last Story and Xenoblade which seem to handle it pretty well. Delivering a battle system you can move around but not be slow like Dragon Age or Final Fantasy XII. I still liked XIII's gameplay despite the flaws. But I do not want it to turn into a poor mans action game like this Lightning Rises.
I have been playing Wii recently to get the JRPG experience the PS3 has failed to deliver for the majority of this gen. I found Xenoblade Chronicles to be absolutely outstanding, it had heart, it had scale, it has an intense exciting battle system, a wonderful score and a story that develops at a solid rate through out. I have to say, at the moment, I would rather play the next Xenoblade (Which they've announced) on the Wii-U than a Final Fantasy title which plays out like an action spin off. Final Fantasy used to be the dominant franchise not just in JRPG's but on the PS1 console in general. But how the mighty have fallen and to have to look elsewhere for that JRPG experience is a real shame.
Should we except Final Fantasy Versus XIII as Final Fantasy XV... It's a game which has been teased for roughly 7 years. It still looks good from the clip we saw 2 years ago... and I still would like to play it but... I want a new Final Fantasy. Even though it is very different to Final Fantasy XIII, I still want something new. I never did like Final Fantasy numerals to be of a franchise themselves and if anything I always respected how each numeral offer a a completely new experience but surrounding some solid RPG traits. S-E had better deliver this E3 or they could lose me as a customer to S-E and the PS4 for good.

The big announcement at E3 should be one of the following. If it is not, I will boycott SE until they kick out the current CEO and bring in someone competant:
- Final Fantasy VS XIII will be a PS3 and PS4 launch title, with a holiday or early 2014 release date.
- Final Fantasy XIV will be free to play and launch October on PS3.
- Final Fantasy VII reboot will be a PS3 and Vita cross play exclusive, to be released holiday 2014.
- Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer exclusive ti PS4 with a holiday 2014 release window.
- PS4 and Vita cross play sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics. (Small downloadable game even!!)
- Parasite Eve RPG heavy prequel for PS4.
- DO NOT announce FF XV until FF Vs XIII and FF XIV have definite release dates!!!!
Honestly, Square Enix have completely lost touch with their fans and I will no longer support them. Until they get their act together, I will simply skip over their E3 part when replaying the video.

But Square has been abysmal on console this generation. I'm not sure if it was the exoticness of the hardware, the increase in development cost, general mismanagement, or some combination thereof, but ever since the PS3 debuted, Square has been virtually non-existant on console. They had really good output on handhelds though, so I can't write them off completely. We know they CAN still make good games, but whether they can muster up the resources to make one for an HD console that doesn't take a decade is questionable.
I have no expectations for FFXV. Personally, I'm hoping Square takes a good hard look at what Monolithsoft did with Xenoblade and their upcoming Xeno game (since I'll bet money that the new Xeno game will come out before FFXV) and see how much of them they can borrow/steal/ripoff. After all, Xenoblade's system is, at its core, an advancement of XII's, which is the direction I think FF needs to go in. XIII went in the complete opposite direction of XII and I think was a huge step backwards. I wouldn't mind completely turn-based like FFX but I doubt we'll see that again. I don't think it's necessarily bad, since there are ways to "hide" ATB systems to make them appear more realtime (Crisis Core, for example) without devolving into full-fledged action RPGs. Not that Action RPGs are bad, but I do prefer FF to have ATB-type stuff. FFXIII went too far with the speed and the twitch stuff (I should NOT have to spend the first 20 hours playing a game looking only at meters and numbers, not what my characters are actually doing) and I hope to never see that again (note: I haven't played FFXIII-2).
In addition, I'd KILL for a Final Fantasy with mech combat a la Xenogears. We only got a scaled down bastardized version of that in FFVI, and I've wanted to see mechs given a proper return ever since.
Also, I hope that any future FF (indeed, any good RPG, period) comes out for Vita in addition to PS3 or PS4 version, because playing it on Vita is likely the only way I'll get to play it.

Ito (FF VI-IX-XII) leading: A story nicely told through the rather non-linear exploration of a well put-together world, with a great emphasize on a clever battle system.

One thing with FF's though... I would have liked to see more split-party action. (IX did this for the first 2 discs, really) Split the part up and force me to properly balance everyone... I always hated having bench players.
VI did it well with special events and the final dungeon... VII only did it with the final battle (almost)... VIII did in the final dungeon... IX did in a way KIND of because you couldn't make your party until disc 3 (or close to). X was nice in that everyone was a part of the same party. And XII could sub in and out.
I just wish there was more opportunity to keep everyone active.

Plus, the game was very restricting when it comes to exploration, compared to what came before, and I never enjoyed blitzball. Story between Tidus and Yuna was sweet, as was Sin and Tidus, but the rest felt like filler. Especially Seymour.
I enjoyed the battle system though. Having all party members at the ready was a nice breath of change. But... attacking with a sport ball... Come-on.
I didn't really like the world's setting either. I prefer when the series is a mix of medieval + technology over what we got in X.
Mostly forgettable.
I will note though that I never understood the complaints about the laughing scene. It was cringe worthy, yes, because it was forced. But that is exactly what it was supposed to be: forced.

The ability learning system was fine. The problem was the restrictions in place compared to the previous two FFs (and its sucessive two). No -truly- useful customnization options (mostly defensive abilities, almost no offensive options), no multi-hit attacks of any kind, and stuff that used to be good (Counter, status ailments) were massively toned down to the point of being useless. The whole system felt very "locked down" compared to the freedom of V-VIII, especially VII. It's like Square went out of their way to make sure that nothing in the game was broken or even too good, and the result is that the combat is the most straightforward and boring it's been since FFIV.
Hynad:
To me, FFX is like FFI, in that it has a lot of small flaws, but the game as a whole is much better than the sum of its parts. The lack of exploration was a let down, I agree, but I'm more of a combat guy anyway, and the combat was topnotch (ridiculousness of having a blitzball as a weapon aside). I also like the characters a lot (especially love Yuna, lousy voice acting aside; character-wise, she's the strongest FF female ever). Seymour was a waste of an antagonist, though. He was definitely a sideshow.
And once you got into it, Blitzball is hands down the best mini-game in any FF. Hell, I think it would qualify for best mini-game in any game, period.

> At least you couldn't beat the game by making everyone just hit "attack" with the occasional "cure".
FFX was pretty easy, but you could do that in almost every FF depending on what you did, including IX. IX just switched "hit attack" with "hit character's best attack" (i.e. Thievery, Shock, Dragon Crest, throwing Wing Edges, Madeen, etc).
> Never been a fan of everyone being able to do everything. I personally think the tank/DD/support type systems are the most well rounded as opposed to everyone being able to do anything. So much so that in those other FF's, I impose classes on each character anyways.
I agree with this. I prefer character classes, but I thought FFX did a good job of balancing character classes for the majority of the game, then letting you do whatever you wanted come end game. I like to take my RPG combat systems to the limit, and FFX had good pacing when it came to breaking things. I think a job system like FFV or, better yet, FFTactics, is the best application of this: You can theoretically create clones, but it's usually not in your best interest to do so except maybe at the very endof the game.
However, while FFIX's character classes were fine, what each class could do was very limited and boring. With -very- few exceptions, EVERYTHING was neutered in that game.
> And bringin' back the 4 character party? Yes please.
I agree with this too. I love the larger party games. But FFIX didn't do anything for me. In addition, why were the battles so goddamn SLOOOOOOW, even with the fastest speed setting and Auto-Haste on everyone?

I also expects that some will say it's not FF anymore because of the new battle system, over dramatic scenes, blah, blah, blah.
