Advanced Warfare Pre-Orders Tracking Well Behind Ghosts

This isn't good news for the Call of Duty franchise.

According to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare are well below that of the pre-orders for last year's Ghosts (source: VentureBeat).

In fact, he claims pre-orders for this year's effort are 50 percent lower than those for Ghosts. That's bad news for a number of reasons. Firstly, the previous entry wasn't well-liked by critics and it was widely considered to be a step backward. Secondly, with Destiny already on store shelves, it's feasible that many gamers already have their multiplayer FPS fix for the holidays (and beyond). Thirdly, we're talking about Call of Duty, here. The reigning shooter king should never be down 50%.

Perhaps this marks an inevitable changing of the guard...? One can hope.

Yeah I think we have reached saturation limit, but Activision was smart enough to have a huge game ready to replace it.

I haven't touched the series since CD4. What about you?

*Edit*

I haven't "legally" touched the series since CD4.

Do you think this is mainly because Ghosts wasn't that great or because of the change in gameplay?

I think it's just too much of the same thing.

Well, while this is probably the first compelling CoD since MW2, CoD has a history of being riddled with balance issues galore and fun-killing shenanigans.

Perhaps, people have been weathered to the point where they are waiting for the community to get their hands on it and see how it *actually* is after a couple weeks in.

If my games roster wasn't already full, that's what I'd be doing.

Honestly, this is wonderful news. I hope it (gaming development) returns to the passionate side rather than the cash grab side

"This isn't good news for the Call of Duty franchise."

Oh it's good news alright, I'd say VERY good news indeed! For the (downfall of the) Call of Duty franchise that is.

Thanks to Destiny, there won't be a Call of Duty in my house any time soon.

I actually think this will be the first time too.

Well good to hear that most of the Cod community think this is a wrong direction the franchise is headed, judging by the AW trailers it looks silly. Hopefully Treyarch can revive most of their community with their next installment next year. Imo Treyarch is the better dev now in this franchise.

I'm not at all surprised. I was an avid COD gamer for years. It was mostly just a fun social thing. However, my disappointment grew with each subsequent release. I finally walked away with Ghosts, and I've not really looked back. Not at all surprised....Battlefield, I think, is going to see an even greater fall given their shift to cops and robbers. I'm looking forward to Assassins Creed Co-op, GTA and of course continuing on with Destiny, those games will keep me more than busy.
