Bungie Considering Matchmaking Option For Destiny Raids

With a fluid game like Destiny, things can always change.

For instance, how you join Raids in the future might be different, as Bungie community manager David "DeeJ" Dague wrote on the Destiny Blog.

Right now, you need a group of friends to form a Fireteam before you can attempt a Raid. Some players say it would be more convenient if they could simply form a team online via matchmaking, and just restrict admittance to those Lv. 20 and up. This would discard the need for organizing teams and scheduling play times, but the developer isn't so keen on this idea. After all, Raids are tough, and teamwork is key. Said Dague:

"The Raid was designed for solid teams of killers who have made a commitment to solve a dense and explosive riddle. Most of the raiding parties who have emerged victorious from the Vault of Glass have sworn that one weak link would have doomed their chain."

However, he added that there's another side to the coin:

"There have been other stories, of course. We’ve heard tell of Guardians who met each other just outside the door that leads into that vault. Strange tales have reached our ears--tales of total strangers who have banded together to see the Raid all the way through to a triumphant finale."

He said such stories surprise Bungie, and they want gamers to know they're considering Matchmaking options for the more challenging quests. "It's a start," Dague finished. What do you think? Should there be an option for high-level strangers to get together for Raids?

My character is only at level 25, so I have yet to play this famed "House of Glass", but with that said, an option to do so shouldn't hurt anyone.

Lemme know when you feel comfortable tackling it. I got 4 people ready to go including myself. I can get one more if you're mainly playing by your lonesome.

I am not even at the required level, so it might be a bit. I will have my sons throw down with me too when it happens, and that is good thing because they are better then me!

Thanks brother.

Bigrailer, what level are you? I'm a level 26 hunter and it'd be nice having more people I could call on for help on some of them weekly missions. Strange coins are in high demand for me.
I live in Pacific Standard Time and I usually play around 8:30pm.

Max anytime you wanna play just lemme know.

Temjin- I'm a 26 hunter also. I'm PST and typically play round 8 as well. I have 2 other friends that I play with and we are trying to get another person to 26. I also have a buddy who's level 28 or something. That gives us 5, so ur timing is perfect! ;) We haven't been able to do the raid yet but we are trying to. So if u wanna join up one evening that would be cool. And on any night you wanna do a daily or something I'd be in. Add me or send a friend request to the same name I use here.

itll make things easier than jumping on forums finding people. if matchmaking stays true, itll even bring in players when someone leaves.

I personally would not do matchmaking for a raid. I think a lot of people will find it disjointed, un-organized, and quiet: I havnt played a strike yet - while matchmaking - and the other person was using a mic. It's like people just want to get through it and not explore all while not communicating. I feel the raid would be the same because my experiences have suggested that.

Bungie had the right idea in that you need communication, a plan and cooperation. Now I'm not saying don't implement it, but I wouldn't use it. The other thing I'm not sure of is if you don't complete it the first time do you need to get these same people together to complete it? How difficult would that be? Probably not an issue but if you have to match make with different people later I just don't know how that would work.

I'm a level 30 Hunter, and I've completed the Vault of Glass on the normal mode, twice. The first time was with a group consisting of two different clans with a mutual acquaintance that brought us together, and the second time was comprised solely of my clanmates after my clan leader and I learned what to do from the first run.

Honestly, I can't see how matchmaking would work. The assessment of "one weak link" bringing ruination on the run is correct. Technically, the Vault of Glass isn't that hard (well... except on Hard Mode which my clanmates and I couldn't defeat the Templar Boss' first phase, not enough of my clanmates are high enough level to do the Hard Mode). Once you learn what to do, and make sure everyone is on the same page then it's a matter of execution. The problem is co-ordination and communication are a must. Everyone needs to have a mic, and the willingness to use it. When someone steps up and takes the lead, then everyone needs to follow, unless he/she proves themselves incapable.

My clan is a solid one, with many of our members having played together with one another since the first SOCOM on PS2. However, because one of our members was unable to follow instructions and had to have an excuse every single time he died, and going off on one rant or another, we were at risk of failing our first all-clan run, and were forced to bench him.

The Vault of Glass can be hard, especially on your first run, but it can be beaten with a competent team. Make sure all the people you go in with are committed to the cause, have a mic, and are willing to set aside their egos, as well as be able to set a decent chunk of time aside (particularly on a first run, there will be a lot of trial and error).

Good luck, and have fun with it. I got lucky and within the first 2 runs I managed to come out with 3/4 pieces of raid gear (with an Exotic Helm, I have enough light to reach level 30), 2 Primary weapons ("Vision of Confluence" Scout Rifle and "Atheon's Epilogue" Auto Rifle), 1 Secondary ("Found Verdict" Shotgun), and a Heavy ("Hezen Vengeance" Rocket Launcher).

The raid is well worth the time and effort.

I'm a level 24 Warlock so I'm not quite there to unlock the raids. But just by doing the hardest strike on Monday, I don't think its a good idea. Not to many people use mics. I had two random people in my party and it was difficult to complete die to lack of communication.
