Yamauchi: Gran Turismo 7 Will Launch In "2015 Or 2016"

Not long after Gran Turismo 6 released last year, creator Kazunori Yamauchi surprised everyone by saying that GT7 was only "a year or two away."

Now, Yamauchi has sort of clarified that comment. In a recent GamesTM interview, the GT guru said the next franchise installment won't be ready until 2015 or 2016. Okay, so that's quite the release window, but at least we know it has no hope of hitting this year.

Yamauchi also spoke about the development differences between PS3 and PS4, and how GT7 will run on Sony's new console:

"Everything will be running naturally. PS3 was much, much more difficult. The high quality of data that we have being rendered on the PS4 I think is going to make an incredible difference."

Yamauchi added that this team at Polyphony Digital has a "clear vision" of what GT7 will be like, and they want to "do everything we couldn't do in GT6." I'm good with that, aren't you? Here's hoping the next entry feels like a true next-gen experience...and if it doesn't come out until 2016, it had better.

See? This is the racing game I want to play. The reason why I have held off on other racing games for the PS4. Can't wait to play this beastly game.

So October 2016. Could have done with a prologue this time to tide us over.

I have yet to beat Gran Turismo 6 (S Class events) so I might have time because with Far Cry 4, The Witcher 3, Bloodborne and MGS5... I'm not too sure.

While many may have liked to have seen GT7 this year, I don't think that anyone really expected it to drop in 2014, especially not with DriveClub's delay. Sometime within the next two years sounds great, though, but I can't help but feel that the series' popularity has flagged a bit. PD are really going to have to take the game to the next level and show off that they are aware of their competition. Incorporate a livery editor, the course editor, a wider range of cars, more tracks, better sounds, better AI, or the game, and the developer by proxy, are going to absolutely cop it.

I have faith that they can pull it off, though.

"do everything we couldn't do in GT6." Im really hoping that meant completely change all the car sounds and tire screeching so it doesn't sound like something out of the PS1 era. Oh and to make all cars detailed and not the pixelated PS2 models...

and hopefully no standard car models, ie freaking ps2 car models!
oh and of course proper damage models!
come on PD we want to see soft body physics in the game!
no more of this dragging behind the competition, its about f*cking time they started looking around and started offering what competitors have offered for YEARS!

So long as the improvements are more than cosmetic upgrades. This game needs a better balance of modifications, less forgiving driving physics (an expert mode), and way less redundant cars. I don't mind the redundancy of cars, but it doesn't add anything to the game. It's a redundancy that makes its overall fit and finish less shiny.

Make it shiny, PD!

The comment about a less forgiving game mode implies more of a simulator that can truly adapt realism and the difficulties associated with it. It's not that gt5 and gt6 did anything wrong, but a simulator (per the claim) can definitely use the revamping. We need more brake fade, more instability over surfaces that's realistic (currently get the "float", which happens but not to the extent or in all circumstances), and more turn - in effort. Turn out is pretty decent and mid turn isn't too bad. Intial turn - in I'd far less dynamic. Either you do or you don't.

I'm willing to bet that the physics will bring on fresh characteristics. Doubt it'll need a new engine to accomplish it. Expecting dynamic weather!

I'll shut up now...
