Dead Or Alive 5: Last Round Launching On February 17

Fighting fans, mark your calendars.

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced that Dead or Alive 5: Last Round will release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America on February 17, 2015. It will be available in European territories three days later.

The physical and digital versions for PS4 and Xbox One will go for $40, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 iterations will retail for $30. The game will not be available in physical format for the older consoles, by the way. There are also pre-order bonuses, if you're so inclined:

Putting your deposit down at GameStop will net you Ninja and Aloha costume packs (wearable by certain characters), while pre-ordering at Amazon and Best Buy will get you the Showstopper and Beach Party costume sets. The developers further confirmed that The Crimson stage from Dead or Alive 2 will appear in the game; it's a multi-level stage where players can fight on the rooftops or in the streets.

Last but certainly not least, PS4 and Xbox One players can try the game out for free. After the title launches, you can download a special version of Last Round called "Core Fighters." This bundle comes with four fighters (Ayane, Hayate, Kasumi and Ryu Hayabusa) and nearly every game mode. For more details, check out the game's official website.

They shouldn't be announcing Dead of Alive 6 instead? I simply don't see the need for this port. With the PS2 HD collections on PS3 it was validated by a huge boost in resolution and most games being put into widescreen format. I just don't see the value of these PS3 to PS4 ports like this, Sleeping Dogs & Saints Row 4.

DOA6 is a ways out and it needs time to leverage the new-gen of processing. Team Ninja already stated this. The idea here is to bring something DOA and Japanese-fighter to the new-gen of platforms because there's currently no representation of the genre on the PS4 platform.

PS4 marks the first time in PS history that a Tekken or like japanese fighter wasn't ready for a launch window.

and Injustice doesn't count because it's not a japanese fighter and it was poorly ported to the PS4 anyway. It was something of a rush job (crappy FMV choppiness and a save file glitch that has already wiped all my progress once since I got it. The game also mis-mapped a couple buttons before it was patched.. which took too long to do).

I get it... I just don't approve of it. I just see no point a a consumer to buy into this nonsense.

As for Tekken, it missed the PS3 launch alright. Tekken 6 was released October 09... 3 years after the launch of the PS3. All because they were fussing on this Scenario Mode, which was awful anyway. I say this feeling very bitter. We're getting a Tekken 7 probably late 2015... eh... i've just lost all excitement for it, i'll stick to Tekken Tag 1 HD with Tekken Hybrid.

PS3 got Tekken Dark Resurrection first (Nov '06 in Japan and March for America) and it came well before Tekken 6. It was an upgraded Tekken 5 with more stages and characters. It was at or around the launch window. I know. I played the crap out of it.

Tekken 7 may come next year at the earliest. That's well over a year out, maybe two, from PS4's launch.

What? No PSN pre-order bonuses? Either way this is a D1P for me.
I'm really pleased about this announcement and for the speed of the port's release. DOA5 is a fine 3D fighter. In depth 3D 'martial arts' based fighters don't get much exposure anymore. So much of the genre has moved towards simple movelists with over the top super moves and lots of jumping. Not that there isn't depth to that but there's definitely a different ebb and flow to them.

I love the holds and slips system but I get so excited I tend to button mash, either way it's fun.

Oh I can't avoid this. The truth is I never had time to play much of DOA5. It is in my library and a sensible man would just enjoy that, but I can get those graphics and ladies on my PS4 with a beach party bonus for that price? What the hell right?

It's a solid fighter but Tekken 7 is the one i am really looking forward too. Unlike Team Ninja, Namco actually put gameplay first ahead of visuals or how good their characters look in their costumes.

Maybe if they started focusing on fixing the garbage netcode instead of shoving costumes after costumes into the game people might start enjoying it abit more. Just a thought, shame it's only an after thought for Team Ninja.

But atleast the characters have plenty of clothes to wear, that's the main thing!
