GTA Collection Is A Possibility
Collections and compilations often do very well these days.
And while publisher Take-Two Interactive won't confirm a Grand Theft Auto collection, they also won't rule out the possibility.
GTA installments are often re-released (November's next-gen iteration of Grand Theft Auto V is an example), but the franchise has never seen a complete remaster akin to the upcoming Halo Master Chief Collection.
So, might we return to Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas at some point? During an investor call (as cited by GameSpot), Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick explained the situation:
"In any given year we and our key competitors launch new intellectual properties and new iterations of older properties. And occasionally, when we see a platform shift, we will take an old property and create an iteration of that in a very similar form for next-gen. And we wouldn't rule anything out. That would be driven by the market opportunity that we perceive, and the potential for delivering a quality release. And that would be very much something that also would be driven by the passion of our labels [Rockstar and 2K]."
Zelnick added that it wouldn't be a "mandate" for their IPs, and their job remains the same: "Make sure that consumers are thrilled; to deliver the very best titles in the marketplace." Well, if that Master Chief Collection does good things for Microsoft, maybe Take-Two will officially entertain the idea of a GTA compilation of sorts. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
