Ubisoft, Contest Winner Set A Unique Guinness World Record

Now this is a record that will probably last a while, just because it's so unique.

Ubisoft and contest winner Will Cruz have set a new Guinness World Record for Highest Altitude Videogame Console Session (bet that's a new category). The 23-year-old Cruz played the upcoming Far Cry 4 at an elevation of 18,569 feet (5,660 meters) above sea level for 79 minutes.

Cruz was the winner of the publisher's Quest for Everest: The Gaming Journey of a Lifetime, and he got to embark on a quite the adventure. Although the Provo, Utah native had never traveled out of the country before, he got to visit Kathmandu, Nepal, along with the Khumjung Monastery, and the Khumbu Glacier. Cruz then hiked to the summit of Kala Patthar, one of the Himalayan Mountains set at the base of Mt. Everest. Of course, he went with a support team of 15 people, including sherpas, a train of yaks that carried all the electronic equipment, and a video crew.

Still, he had to deal with wend gusts of up to 25 miles per hour, temperatures that dropped from 26 to 17 degrees F, and reduced oxygen. Yeah, I'd rather play my games from the comfort of my living room but even so, I can appreciate the accomplishment.

That is impressive. I've hiked in Provo and it's a nice place, but nothing there is high enough to prepare you for 5.6km above sea level. He must be in decent shape or a really big fan of FarCry.

These world records are getting a little silly. What's next? World record for number of times food is chewed in the middle of the Mojave desert?
