Share Play Disabled For Advanced Warfare, Sony Explains

If you've been playing the recently released Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, you may have noticed a message at the start of each play session.

It tells you that game recording has been disabled. What this means is that the game doesn't support the newly released Share Play feature for PlayStation 4, delivered last week via firmware update 2.00.

Yes, Sony did say the option would work for all games. However, in a clarification to GameSpot, Sony said all games can support Share Play, but it's up to the developer to utilize it:

"Share Play is a system level feature enabled by System Software Update 2.0 making it available for all PS4 titles, however the option is available to developers to disable the feature according to what they feel will best benefit the consumer experience."

Share Play lets two PS4 owners play the same copy of a game online. The owner is the host and can stream footage to a guest console; they can do this for one hour. There's no limit to the number of times you can do it, either. But obviously, a developer has to want to allow this...

Activison: Must sell more copies than Ghosts. Let's disable that stupid option of Sony's share play so all those people who cannot wait to borrow from others go out and buy it.

Simple.

They'll probably update the game and allow it after they feel they have a high enough attach rate, or the deal with Microsoft expires. What, the Xbox version of CoD always gets all the DLC first, is it that hard to believe they gave them a little incentive to make sure the PS4 version didn't have a bell or whistle that was better than the Xbox One?

What exactly do you think Sony will accomplish by "requiring" publishers to enable share play? Would it even be legal to impose?

I'm not saying they should require anything. Or that I expect anything from Sony at this point for that matter. But now that it's public we'll be seeing less and less devs implementing or enabling that feature. Just like they did with the music in the PS3. Remember how it was possible to play your own music whilst playing a video game as long as the dev allowed it, and none of Sony's 1st party games allowed it. Now it's only a matter of time before we find out what other features we're supposed to get are voluntary.

Haha, I wonder if Activision have a secret policy to try to make themselves seem as unfriendly as possible?

The option to disable is up to the developer, not Sony, besides why would they take a game with potential of selling millions of copies to be saddled with this feature

Why exactly would the game sales suffer? If anything it would help sell more to people who never played COD and there are still millions who never played COD.This is just a crappy and greedy decision by Activision who does not even release a demo for this overrated game.I hope AW sells the lease out of the entire franchise and keeps selling less.Bet they allow share play then and release a demo.People complain about how long the feature took and then are ok for one of the biggest games to not have it.Brilliant!

I don't know anyone that owns the game anyway or who plays COD.
