After Unity's Technical Issues, Ubisoft Resolves To Change

When you fall short, you have to adjust your approach.

And that's precisely what Ubisoft plans to do. After Assassin's Creed Unity launched with several technical issues, the publisher has vowed to change the way it interacts with gamers and critics.

In speaking to the BBC, a Ubisoft spokesperson had this to say:

"We are working to adapt our services and communications with consumers accordingly, both by changing the way we work with reviewers and by offering customers open betas or other early access to some games, all so that they have the information they need and want."

Ubisoft has acknowledged the bugs and glitches found in the new blockbuster, and they've already outlined plans to fix them. Of course, you can't really fix the frame rate issue. Still, we say it shouldn't dissuade those who want to try it; check out our freshly posted review for more information.

I'll tell you how to fix it. It's simple. Stop releasing them annually. Give the teams more time than a set in stone time of year to deliver.

Second stop saying you used the full power of the consoles. Focus more on creating the game than making it as full as possible. Then you will be utilizing the power of the consoles rather than trying to push the consoles to its limits.

Betas are good but I also feel that 90% of beta users are involved only to play early. I'm not convinced that developers are getting the information they want all the time. Games with betas still seem to have issues, sometimes bad issues.

They'll figure it out eventually that by giving themselves more time they will have more time to clean things up.

Bro, at this point in time we're the beta testers. When a game goes "gold" what it really means is it's ready for full scale testing. Who ever heard of a "finished" game.

Each of the past three AC entries have had about 3 years development time. They use multiple internal teams.

Yep I know that. I'm referring to sticking to an annual release that keeps them from going into longer development cycles. And for the record I'm not singling Ubisoft out. All developers should spend the time to get it right.

an embargo on reviews untill 12.00pm on launch day,they knew the game was forked and they released it anyway....SCUMBAGS!!!

LOL! My stomach hurts from laughing so hard when reading this bs. Actions speak louder than words, Ubi. Stop gimping games for the lowest common denominator and actually deliver a fully features, working, finished product on a consistent basis and maybe I'll start to believe you.

I love falling through the world and getting stuck in hay wagons and being unable to escape unless I restart the game.

No, wait, I REALLY love it when characters face models dont load in properly and all they have is floating teeth and eyeballs.

Game was NEXT GEN and deserves 100/10. From the generic story that falls short of Ezio's, to the repetitive gameplay and missions. Whats the real next gen is the reused assests. Like the crouch being the exact same thing as Sam Fishers from blacklist. Or how everything else is just reused buildings and textures from the other assassins creed games. They need to release 3 AC games a year, so I can experience everything GOOD about the series because it definitely is not a boring overplayed mess

Oh, the app treasure chests and collectible were AMAZING! I love having the very first thing to collect in the game to be involved in something being outside of the game. Or the other treasure chests that makes me sign up for some weird Uplay function.

Every game should force stupid online features on you in order to have the illusion of massive amounts of side collectibles being exclusive outside of the game.

Also, the game features silky smooth 10-15fps.

Yes, they CAN fix the frame rate issue.
It just requires some optimization to their code. It's 100% possible, and I'm certain they'll fix it to some degree in a future patch.

Pop-ins and missing textures are also fixable. They just need to get work on it.

Dear Ubisoft,

Talk is cheap. Deny it all you want and say that the embargo was merely to allow reviewers to try the online component, but you also know how much of a hot mess the game you are releasing. So much for you delaying an Assassin's Creed game to ensure quality, eh?

This is the exact opposite of Dragon Age: Inquisition. The reviews are out as early as a full week before the game's release. That's because Bioware and EA are confident about the quality of the game they're releasing.

So yeah, please make sure that the next games you release are nowhere near the bugfest that is AC: Unity. Not unless you're completely bent on destroying your name and whatever goodwill you have left among the consumers, of course.

I absolutely love the AC series, and I'm definitely going to grab Unity (after some patches are applied).
But yeah... I agree. I think it's because they are releasing them every year, that they don't have time to optimize their code and game test.

Someone suggested to release them like GTA (every few years). I think that's a good idea.

For the third time in the last 24 hours, the developers DON'T spend one year on a new Assassin's Creed entry. They spent 2-3 years on each of the past three installments, in fact. There are multiple internal studios working on new titles, just like Activision with Call of Duty.

Secondly, the embargo thing is a non-issue. The reason Dragon Age embargos were a week early is because the publisher sent out the game way ahead of time, which is rare. Ubisoft sent AC about a week ahead of time; they usually give you a week to review, so the embargo date ends up on launch day. Delaying it slightly for a few hours says nothing; it has happened more than a few times before, and for games that turned out exceedingly well.

And really, if all anyone sees when looking at Unity is a "bugfest," I feel really sorry for them.

Oh, I never meant to suggest developers spend a year on any game.. that would be insane! LOL

What I meant is the release schedule of AC being every year meaning, even with staggered development, they're still only given maybe 2 or 3 years. Even then, they aren't even developing from scratch since most of the textures and and core game engine functionality is already there.

There was saying in my Computer Science class... "It takes 10% of the time to write 90% of the program. But takes 90% of the time do finish the last 10%".

According to IGN, they just came out with a patch. What's the first issue they sorted out?
Some problem people were having with the microtransactions, which they have an option to buy $50 worth of Helix credits.
That's not a microtransaction, that's practically a full game's price.
Shows you where the priorities are.

I'm glad that they're stepping up the game plan. Makes me reconsider my views on future releases and, perhaps, picking up Unity once it gets patched up.
