Take-Two CEO On GTAV's Gritty Setting: "It's Beautiful Art"

Grand Theft Auto V for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One launches this week and once again, the game is embroiled in controversy.

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed this issue on Bloomberg TV and while he admitted that players can have sex with prostitutes and then kill them, GTAV has a lot more to offer.

He also explained that the setting demands such content:

"This is a criminal setting; it's a gritty underworld; it is art. And I embrace that art. And it's beautiful art. But it is gritty."

Zelnick then compared gaming to movies and TV and really, they all share a "similar universe." GTAV provides hundreds of hours of entertainment and you can participate in all sorts of activities, including flying, racing, diving, and just exploring the vast virtual metropolis that is Los Santos. Zelnick says the game can be rough, of course, but that's sorta the point.

Stay tuned for our review of the updated GTAV...

Been watching Walking Dead and...I don't think I've ever played a video game as gory as that show. Its a good show, but its very popular. Accepted by the media, yet a video game shows a sex scene or violence and it gets chastised.

GTAV is art, because it captures the protagonists perfectly in the world they live in. their hopes and dreams, and what they can lose and have lost. Shame games like GTAV will always garner unwanted attention like its doing something wrong when its only acting as a interactive experience.

Dead space is gorier and so is splatterhouse It is because it is gta that it will always garner bad attention. Neither of those two games ever got mentioned in the news.

Killing hookers in games is what keeps me from doing it IRL ;)

GTAV is a massive sandbox world with thousands of things to do. You can fly over mountains in jetliners, cruise across the waters in speedboats and customize your vehicles but despite all this you will still get media do-gooder gimps waving their arms around about a sex scene that shows what? A woman's head bopping up and down for 15 to 20 seconds? Which you can only do during the night/late evenings in-game time where most of the camera is obscured anyway.

Because that is what everyone will be buying and enjoying the game for right? :D
