Ubisoft: Massive Crowds Aren't Causing The Issues In Unity

Ubisoft continues to work on optimizing the performance of the recently released Assassin's Creed Unity.

Originally, many thought some of the issues were due to the massive crowd sizes. But in fact, in a lengthy post on the game's Live Updates page, Ubisoft offered a different explanation:

"Though crowd size was something we looked at extensively pre-launch, it is something we continue to keep a close eye on. We have just finished a new round of tests on crowd size but have found it is not linked to this problem and does not improve frame rate, so we will be leaving crowds as they are."

The game supports up to 10,000 simultaneous on-screen NPCs, by far the most ever for any series entry. Ubisoft said they take all feedback "very seriously" and they understand that technical performance is a critical issue for many. The process requires "attention and care," though, so you'll have to be patient as the developers keep making improvements. Here's an example of the progress they've made thus far:

"We can tell you that we have detected a distinct discrepancy between what we observed in the pre-launch versus post-launch environment. In spite of our testing, it looks like the instruction queue is becoming overloaded and impacting performance. We have several fixes we are exploring right now and will continue to update you with our progress of what is working and how quickly we can implement these fixes in the game in the weeks ahead."

Well obviously Ubisoft. Its bad game design. Lack of testing, and rushing it out the door before its even ready. The same thing happened with Medal of honor Warfighter. Don't put out whats not ready. EA learned their lesson, hopefully Ubisoft will as well.

I despise liars, and Ubisoft continues to lie.

Maybe, but it is tough to test and anticipate things that later get "tested" (if you can call it that) by millions of customers.

I give benefit of the doubt and can get over it if they at least fix it in a reasonable amount of time.

I really look forward to Unity. But right now I've given priority to CoD AW and Inquisition because I want Unity to be more patched up before I play it.

Both CoD and Inquisition arrived in the mail today from Gamefly. Heck yes! And I paid a dollar. That's like 3 weeks of two cutting edge game for nearly nothing.

yea, it's like if you quit the service, after about 3-4 months they try to get you to rejoin for a dollar.

Right now I've played about 15 min of CoD and had to stop because it felt like a pretty shooting gallery too quickly to me.
Dragon Age though is making a strong impression.

I've noticed this a lot with games on the newer consoles, developers trying to use the extra power to have as many characters on screen as possible just so they can say it's next gen. The biggest culprit i've come across is shadow of morder. Whilst it is good it did get tiresome and frustrating.... Wave after wave after wave after fecking wave of orcs. It ends up with too much going on and it ultimately takes the enjoyment away. Whilst this is slightly different being that they're simply NPCs it's still an example of them trying to put too much on show at once.
