Here's Why There Will Be No Early Review Copies Of The Crew

I won't be getting an early copy of The Crew for review purposes, but Ubisoft has an explanation.

As the publisher explained on its Blog, the game can really only be properly evaluated when the servers are populated by players. There won't be any embargo on reviews but the publisher wants critics to wait to sample the full community.

It's pretty common for sources to wait a bit before giving gamers a full analysis of an online-focused game. It takes time and there are always plenty of changes and fixes in the first few weeks (and even months) of a new title's lifespan. Said Ubisoft about The Crew:

"The Crew was built from the beginning to be a living playground full of driving fans, so itís only possible to assess our game in its entirety with other real players in the world.

For this very reason, The Crew will be available to media to begin their reviews when the game launches on December 2. There will be absolutely no embargo on any type of coverage once the game is available for sale."

They added that a few reviews will probably show up at launch, but those will be based almost entirely on the preview sessions and betas the company hosted over the past months. As such, those reviews might not be indicative of the final product, which does require those player servers. For the record, Ubisoft, I was going to wait, anyway.

If the last month beta is an indication of the final product this game would be awful.

Isn't this part of Ubisoft's new policy after the Assassins Creed Unity mess?
If the game is crap or full of bugs don't allow anyone to review it before the masses pay for it.
I have my own new policy concerning Ubisoft's games.. all your games have an automatic six month wait and see grace period. No D1, no exceptions!

I would disagree that sources wait to give gamers an analysis for the online portion of games. Sources do whatever they can to get reviews out first. That's pretty common.

But this is the way it should be for this type of game. One who uses reviews to help purchase a game could argue it's unfortunate.

In other words, they're releasing another buggy piece of shit and want people's money first before they pretend to fix it.

Not that I disagree with the general opinions here but it might help your credibility if you backed up the naysaying with some kind of explanations, guys. Otherwise you're just as bad as whoever you attack.
I was in the beta and while I experienced no technical issues (tho I did see a friend of mine's car just hang in mid air during a race), I just didn't find the game to have any personality. There was nothing compelling about the game.

I also feel it's in Ubi's best interest to allow preview copies because the social aspect is where the game fell shortest during the beta. Not only is it difficult and unintuitive to forma team but there wasn't even an easy way to communicate with your Crew members. It just feels like they followed a recipe (add cars, off roading, street racing, cop chases, etc) instead of truly building a good experience. Between The Crew and Drive Club it seems like the industry simply isn't ready to merge racing and true open world gameplay yet.

Horrible Physics. GTAV feels better imo and it's not even a sole driving game.
