2015 Assassin's Creed Set In Victorian Era, Codenamed Victory

Where will we go in the next Assassin's Creed?

According to a Kotaku report, we're headed to 19th-century London. It's the Victorian era, which is probably why the project is currently code-named "Victory."

The source in question claims Victory will be led by Ubisoft's Quebec office, which means the lead will shift from Ubisoft Montreal. The latter studio has been the lead development team on every franchise entry thus far, so this is a significant change. Furthermore, it seems there will be no AC entry for older consoles; Victory is only coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, and Ubisoft isn't prepping a separate adventure for PS3 and 360, as they did this year with Assassin's Creed Rogue.

Some leaked gameplay footage showed off the game running in Ubisoft's Anvil engine, the same tech used in the recently released Unity. It also highlighted a new item: A grappling hook that could drastically change how we traverse the environment. After the leak, Ubisoft provided an official statement all but confirming the project:

"It is always unfortunate when internal assets, not intended for public consumption, are leaked. And, while we certainly welcome anticipation for all of our upcoming titles, we're disappointed for our fans, and our development team, that this conceptual asset is now public. The team in our Quebec studio has been hard at work on the particular game in question for the past few years, and we're excited to officially unveil what the studio has been working on at a later date. In the meantime, our number one priority is enhancing the experience of Assassin's Creed Unity for players."

I picture a hospital full of boilerplate AC assassins with multiple bandaids, casts and medical wraps.

The change of studio is welcome news, I think, considering the technical problems present in Unity. It means that the team will likely have had more than a single year's primary development time which can only be a good thing.

And it's finally going to Victorian London. Good luck to Ubisoft on this one.

Ridiculous. 8 entries in 7 years, not counting the mobile ones. I'm no fan of the series but come one! I mean, are all of them even relevant the major story arch?

They aren't even done fixing the current one and are already looking towards the next one. Ridiculous I say.

You have to look at it from a business point of view as well (sorry MBA major here). Gamers keep buying it, Ubisoft will keep releasing it.

From the looks of it, most gamers play this franchise for the gameplay and graphics more than anything else.
