The Witcher 3 Hit With Another Delay, Developer Apologizes

Here's one thing you really don't want to do in this market:

Make a promise and not keep it.

Several months ago, developer CD Projekt Red promised gamers that after the initial delay, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt wouldn't be pushed back any farther. They even released the following statement: ""This is not our first game; we are not newbies. It's not like 'hey we are delaying and we'll keep on delaying'."

Sadly, though, in an open letter to gamers everywhere, the developers have announced another delay for the highly anticipated RPG. It's pretty significant, too; previously expected to release in February, it won't be ready until May 19. Here's part of that open letter:

"The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust."

Okay, that date better stick or the fans will start to get pissy.

I hope this doesn't clash with Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's release date (Which I am still hoping is set for June). I don't want any other game stealing it's thunder as it seems Metal Gear is never mentioned as a main contender in the media these days... no idea why, it's colossal for me and seems to be far beyond most other games from a technical stand point, along with it's diversity in gameplay.

The Phantom Pain is on another level to most games at the moment. The sheer level of detail in that jungle/desert sandbox environment is staggering.

Big fan of Kojima, and what he's doing with the Silent Hill franchise at the moment has been nothing short of amazing thus far although i admit it is early days.

Phantom Pain will be awesome. It'll be Phantom Pain vs Uncharted vs Batman next year for GoTY.

I'm thinking Phantom Pain will take it!
The legendary Snake just can't be beat.

So what? Bloodborne and The Order will keep me occupied till then. And after that is probably MGSV which takes priority.

Only thing I am not liking about No Man's Sky is that the devs have recently said multiplayer is not the main focus and you could very likely fly past a players ship and not even realise they aren't an NPC. They also mentioned there is going to be no voice chat which bums me out a living breathing solar system just doesn't feel right without communicating with others at the Space Stations.

As much as I can't wait to play this game I believe they did the right thing.

CDProjekt Red pays attention to gamers, and to video game sites and probably saw all the glitches people were complaining with in Unity and Farcry 4 and realized that they did not want to be in that same boat.

I've never been disappointed by one of their games yet and I know this delay will be well worth it.

I'm looking forward to playing this game. A delay is really saying we underestimated the time we needed to make the game. I'm willing to wait until it's finished.

This just pissed me off royally. This game is the main reason I got the ps4 on day 1. But if it needs more time...go for it. Better not score less than a 9.5 though.

Welp so much for Fromsoft pushing Bloodborne back to avoid competing with The Witcher. =\

I don't mind much. There's GTA5 in january (PC), if I'm not mistaken. That'll take a while, for sure.

Get it done when it's done - I'd far prefer a game released complete later, than buying a game at launch and having to wait three months for them to fix bugs ;). It's hardly unusual for big projects to be delayed, particularly when it's the first project for a team in a new generation.

So not getting myself a birthday gift this year (mine is the 25th) but red is my favorite developer so they can take all the time they need to perfect it :)

Fine by me. I have a huge backlog, and I'm always willing to wait to play a new game if that wait means the finished product will be that much better.

Anyone who complains about a 3 month delay of one of hundreds of games to come out each year needs to put down the controller and go get some fresh air.

Personally I'd rather wait a year and pay for a quality experience than have something come out 'on time' and get an Ubisoft game.

i can understand that both gamers and the devs are frustrated as they didn't quite realise the realease date was too soon but i feel like my trust in them is in good hands looking at their track record for their games so i'm okay with this but idk about everyone else they might be a bit peved

happy gaming
