Bayonetta Sequel In Development, Might It Come To PS4?

Bayonetta 2 was widely considered to be one of the best games of the new generation.

It seemed odd that the IP would jump to Nintendo exclusivity but hey, that's what happened. The question now is whether or not a sequel would go multiplatform again...

According to 4Gamer (as translated by DualShockers), producer Akiko Kuroda and director Yusuke Hashimoto confirmed that development has begun on a new Bayonetta adventure. Kuroda said the project is in the early development phase, and added that "something related to Bayonetta" might be made in 2015 as well.

It just seems like a franchise that would flourish with a much bigger audience and more powerful hardware. Bayonetta 3 on PS4 could be a visual masterpiece, couldn't it?

if it's PS4 then does Bayonetta 2 and 1 come bundled with 3?
;)

It would seem to me Nintendo doesn't own the franchise. Didn't they just fund it's creation?
I would imagine that more or less confirms Bayonetta existence on other platforms.

MS also funded and published Mass Effect so that means nothing for a future or current game.Nintendo wants it they have to buy the IP which I doubt after Bayonetta 2 bombed in Japan and elsewhere.

"As I have said earlier, if you want Bayonetta 2 on PS4 or Xbox One, how about trying to ask Nintendo… If Nintendo doesn’t say yes, it’s not going to happen… While you’re at it, try asking for Mario and Zelda too…"

From Kamiya himself. It's not gonna happen unless Nintendo lets it happen.

Guess it won't happen then too bad the series has to end with 2.If I recall correctly Jawknee you originally hated the first Bayonetta when it came out, so do you still hate it? or does having the Nintendo label makes it good (not asking in jerk tone).

1) I hated that shoddy port on PS3. 2) I still don't like first one all that much but 2 was fantastic. Nintendo also worked with Platinum on the game so their relationship isn''t as simple as "having the Nintendo label". And Bayonetta on Wii U is like night and day vs the port Sega did for the PS3 so there's that too.

And it won't die with 2 because Platinum has already said they want to make another one with....Nintendo. You guys amaze me with your inconsistency. Buying a machine for its exclusives is justifiable as long as it's your system.

Yeah, I see a sequel from Nintendo. Look at the sales of Xenoblade. 800k is a death knell for most studios but Nintendo funds a sequel thats much larger than the original and that game rivalled Skyrim in sheer real estate. Since they are supporting the system alone, they have very high interest in keeping as many high quality and varied games in their portfolio, a Nintendo staple.

Inconsistency is the law of the land. On one hand, Zelda and Mario suck and has sucked for the longest time. On the other say the industry needs more games with imagination like 3D Dot Game Heroes and Rayman Origins/ Legends, games scored in the high 8 and 9s all without the things that make a game great like voice acting, motion capture, characters you can FEEL for, explosions, shaders, etc. I rarely have bad days but this level of bad comedy could bring me back from the darkest moods.

I was outspoken about my hate for it cuz the love and praise overlooked a lot of crummyness that reviewers and gamers decided not to see.(eyes elsewhere on the fighting system)

But I've softened.

Too bad for that low install base for 2 because the original sold amazingly well on the combined 80 million install base it was released on. Oh wait.

Where does it say a new Bayonetta is in the works? i just read a new game was in development by the Bayonetta 2 team.

Right? According to VChatrz by week 10 the first game sold about 300,000 PS360 combined copies despite an install base of nearly 80 million. By week 10 Bayonetta 2 has sold nearly half a million with an install base of less than 7 million.

but isn't the norm flagship Nintendo game hauling in around 4-5 million sales?

If we want to think about percentages, it would seem to me Nintendo would be better off funding one of their own properties (that would sell 4-5 million) than to fund a totally niche-not-their-audience game like Bayonetta 2.
Sorry. Bayonetta is nice and all but I'd take a full on Metroid sequel from Nintendo instead. That's a game franchise that struggles to hit the 4-5 million per release.

EDIT: not to mention where the crap is my F-Zero? I'm teased by F-Zero ships in Mario Kart 8 and SSMB levels.

And where the crap is my Wave Race?

These are games oldschool nintendo fans want. Not some perverse, but wickedly cool, action game.

And I loved Pilotwings on N64. I was mad impressed by that back then. I don't want some cheap handheld version either. So bring back Pilotwings for WIi U. You'd think Nintendo could do all kinds of neat things with it now using their controller.

but a half million isn't well. it's "well considering."

I think I remember Namco stating back during the PS2 era that a game needs to sell about 500k just to break even.

That was a long time ago =)

I have little doubt Bayonetta 2 needed a million units or more to hit that target. That target at full price too.

Keep in mind Bayonetta the original sold like what 2 million? That wasn't even enough to get a backer for it's sequel. They just happened to catch Nintendo at the right time and lucked out. A time when Nintendo wanted to win back the "core" gamer. Now CoD, AC, Madden or anything EA, and Tekken etc have all fled. That boat sailed. And Nintendo is now back by themselves.

Bayonetta isn't your normal flagship Nintendo game. And your right, it's sold well considering*. Half a million in 10 weeks with a 7 million installbase vs 300,000 in 10 weeks with an 80 million installbase is an improvement no? Actually kind of surprising. I thought it would sell far worse. In time it will outsell the original.

I realize that but one has to wonder if the original had only first party studios to share the pool with if it'd have sold a better ratio as well.
I think it would.

Well there was Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors and Smash Bros Wii U all in 2014. Those are all "big" games for a Nintendo platform.

so Jawknee I'm trying to consider my game options when we get a Wii U.
Does Hyrule Warriors have any real depth to it? Every time I pick up a game like Dynasty Warriors or having tried the Wii U demo of HW at Best Buy I quickly feel like these games are the very definition of mindless button mashing while you run around a square map to put out fires of troops that fall down by the dozen.
I want to like these types but I just don't get their appeal. I feel like I'm missing something to their play.

Not much depth to Hyrule Warriors. You basically have two attack buttons that you'll switch back and fourth from. You'll clear enemie outposts and territories while collecting items, treasures and hidden Skulltulas. There's an attempt at a story but it's nothing great. Really the game is a sugar coated Dynasty Warriors for Zelda fans. But there is a lot of content in the form of modes and challenges to get you to continue playing after the main quest is finished. Your assumptions about the game are pretty much spot on. It might be one of those games you pick up at a later date when you can find it for cheap.

Games I would recommend:

Mario Kart 8. The new tracks are great. Anti-gravity ones are especially cool. Online works well. Usually never have an issue finding good matches.

Smash Bros Wii U. It's packed with modes, characters, and unlockables. If you enjoyed previous installments you'll enjoy this one.

Super Mario 3D World. This is also packed a lot content. Lots of levels with very good design and the graphics and attention to detail is ovely.

Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. This is another charming platformer though it's very tough.

Pikmin 3. I didn't think I would like this one but it one of my favorite Wii U games so far. Hard to describe the kind of game it is. I'd guess strategy?

Then Bayonetta 2 which has a great combat system and the small improvements over the first game like frame rate, the camera, sharper graphics and more balanced enemies make the game more enjoyable. Not to mention the neat little bonus of having Nintendo content within the game.

Then obviously the one with the most depth is gonna be Zelda Wind Waker HD. They added a fast travel Sail to make the trips across the ocean much quicker too. Haha

Thanks Jawknee. Yea. Forgot about Pikmin. I really liked the first one. Finished that one actually. I have my list of games.

Bayonetta 2 (for me)
Xenoblade (for me. the trailers look too nice to ignore)
The new Zelda (for me)

Pikmin 3
Super Mario 3D World
Mario Kart 8
Mario Party
New Super Mario Bros.
Yoshi's Wooly World (a daughter of mine loves Yoshi)

Probably the Donkey Kong
Possibly SSMB
Possibly Captain Toad.

Some of these they'll play. Others they'll just watch me play. They get a kick out of platformers. I'm fond of them myself. It's like I'm living my second childhood of videogames. Right now we're doing Sonic Colors.

Yea I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just look at it as a companion console to your PS4. You'll get the best of both worlds.

Don't forget to keep an eye on Starfox too. That one will be out before Zelda. I'll likely get Xenoblade as well.

I'm downloading Captain Toad right now. :) I'll probably buy Mario Party 10 too since I have a full house now. Been a long time since I played one of those. Nintendo still does great living room multiplayer games.

They'd have to be masochist to make the third a wii u exclusive unless they find a way to put Link somewhere in the game.I though the first was a great DMC rip off(in a good way) so I'll get probably get them if they ever come to PS4.

If it comes I'll play it, what the hell right? No hard feelings about that Nintendo nonsense, everybody needs money.

I'm curious about this something in 2015 thing? Will she appear in another fighting game, or maybe get a dungeon crawler like Lara Croft's new games.

I liked the first Bayonetta. However, the only reason I even bought it was because it was made by the same people, Platinum, that gave me one of my favorite games of all time, Vanquish. They left the story completely unfinished! I wish they would knock it off with all this Bayonetta talk and just give me a freaking sequel already. Hell, if I had to I would even buy one of those crappy Wii U's to play it, but I would really prefer it's brilliance on my PS4.
