Evolution Will Tweak Driveclub's Drafting

If you think the drafting in Driveclub needs to be tweaked, you aren't the only one.

The racer has received plenty of updates since its problematic launch in October and developer Evolution Studios continues to make the experience better.

Game Director Paul Rustchynsky took to the NeoGAF forums to talk about some plans for the immediate future (as cited by GamingBolt) and first on the list is drafting behavior, which will be upgraded some time this month. On top of which, the team intends to deliver more custom liveries and color customizations, things the community has requested often over the past few months.

Driveclub has indeed become much better since it first released and it's certainly one of the best-looking games of 2014. Is it the best, graphically? Find out in our upcoming Game of the Year Awards!

I'm real happy with Drive Club.

Visually I think the graphics contest comes down to AC Unity and Drive Club.
On one hand, Drive Club features pristine crisp and highly polished visuals and effects. The new dynamic weather patch makes for astonishingly realistic effects. Every aspect of it's visuals feels much improved over anything from the last gen.

On the other hand, AC Unity, while not as pristine or crisp in image quality as Drive Club, the sheer volume of the environments feels in a league of it's own. It's not just a big city but it's one referenced from an era of exquisite craftsmanship and ornately detailed furnishings. It's also a more difficult task to simulate human life than it is to simulate static machines, like cars. AC Unity made me feel more excited about what the future of the PS4's graphical abilities. And yes, it'll only get better from here.

I suppose Child of Light can be commended for offering such a unique feeling game by way of visuals with it's water colored canvases. That's cool.

For arcade, perhaps it isn't too complicated, but in a simulation I wouldn't underestimate simulation "static" machines. Visually, sure it may just look like all it needs is a good suspension model to bring life to the cars, but under the hood is a bunch of nasty calculations under the Physics engine. These stuff take a lot of resource, and probably as much if not more than human animation, which I think is mostly done with motion capture nowadays. Simulating the correct damper, camber, and springs outputs realistically to every modeled bumps on the track is a small part of it and Kaz has admit they have not reach the point to his satisfaction, in other words it needs to improve a lot more.

At this point they have just begun to simulate aero dynamic behavior to the cars actual shape. With the improved memory, they're also looking to improve the sounds not just from the engine but the cars behavior and environmentally. Temperature to simulate wear and tear more realistically to the tires and brakes is also a work in progress. Of course all this doesn't show up as obvious to most, but it's more than just driving a static car.

Daus, humans are ALWAYS more challenging to model and represent realistically in computer graphics.

... and I meant to say "MORE static, like cars"
I thought it pretty obvious that cars aren't completely static. duh

Driveclub is ok to me graphically, specifically the cars. GT6 showrooms and photo tour just looks more real and detailed and that's a ps3 game. The environments are great but inconsistent in some aspects. However, the weather, rain effects are just wow. Wow Wow wow. Imo, it's the first true display of the next generation, which is the current.

Driveclub is the bomb, best 'non-sim' racer I've played - it just 'feels' fun. Almost guaranteed when I go to play it, I'll play it twice as long as I was thinking I would. Oh, and it doesn't look too shabby either ;).

hey, can you get 1st place on the tour time trial event using the yellow/orange Ruff car?
I can get 2nd but good grief getting 1st is hard.

Each night I play I'm happy to squeak out a point or two to my total tour score.

Nah, I'm not that great at driving games, health isn't what it could be, and can't maintain the focus for great times - I enjoy myself (now that I've reached the limit of my capability in the tour) playing custom races where you can set the difficulty, time trials and challenges (the challenge system is tops :)). Good luck chasing that first :).
