Rumor: Sony Planning Pre-E3 PS4 Announcement Of Some Kind

Not long ago, we wondered whether Sony is planning more big PS4 news for E3.

But maybe this will happen before the huge industry event in June. According to "a source familiar with the company's marketing strategy" speaking to PCMag, Sony has another significant PS4-related announcement up their sleeve, and it'll drop within the month.

To have new information come our way this month or in early May is a darn good idea. We've also asked what Sony can do to prevent Microsoft from stealing the PS4's thunder; after all, it's widely presumed that the new Xbox will be unveiled in April. So knowing this, maybe Sony has a way of keeping the hype and momentum going for their next-generation console. If they do have another big announcement, what do you think it will be? Is it possible that Sony will reveal the launch date and price before E3? Or is it related to the hardware in some way? Or maybe they'll unveil a few new launch titles.

Whatever it is, we just hope it'll be well received. The positive vibes surrounding the PS4 thus far has been encouraging; let's just hope future news is equally encouraging.

It could be a second model of the ps4. Like with different power or something, being the more expensive one obviously. No idea

It will be to show off the actual console.

That's my guess.

Release date won't come till after E3, and pricing probably would be post-E3 as well but pricing COULD be E3. They are the 3 biggest things to announce, the visual, the price, the release date.

Launch titles are awesome, but definitely an E3 event, and not what the world is looking at right now I don't think.

Could it be a fancy peripheral? Like... Something like the Oculus Rift? Oh man if that happens I will seriously have to pinch my arm - twice. It would be like the last of my dreams to become true.

Beam do you have visions of sugar plums dancing in your head? That would be cool, and didnt Sony have a virtual headset that they showed off? I haven't seen anything more about it, but that would be a nice surprise if it was announced as something that was going to be available.

yea they did at TGS last year.
remember reading a updated article since then cant remember where it was shown off though.
they have 2 devices in development.
1 is a new version of their head mounted display, the HMZ-T1 the device i won, which is basically a piece of plastic that sits on your head and makes it look like your sitting in a cinema.
then at TGS they showed off basically their version of the rift, a fully fledged virtual reality unit!
SO hope this is a launch product for the PS4, its REALLY going to give $ony a boost especially if no one else offers anything!
yea the rift is there, but to be honest the dev kits are in such shaky condition ATM i cant see a consumer product releasing anytime soon.
nor it being to the quality people demand, last time i checked it still used 720P screens!
ps4 = 720?
no freaking way!

my UNeducated guess is release date and pricing - if the pricing is "reasonable"

as a marketing ploy, announcing this - and enabling retailers to take preorders - would be a coup ahead of Microsoft even announcing their next-gen console

i doubt it will be any games for 2 reasons.
1 E3 is ALL about the games!
it would be wise to focus on games at E3.
they only have a very short amount of time in their presser, so the more technical mumbo jumbo, and features they can get out before hand the better.
2 M$ is not famous for games, there famous, there in this industry because of features.
so $ony will want to have a few features up their sleeve to counter when M$ announces their new system, try steal back the attention and spotlight.
counter their counter.

I think they should focus on the deliverables. Games, apps, accessories and more looks at the controller and featuers. Leave the hardware reveal for E3. When I say hardware I mean more details on the internal workings AND the phystical look of the system. My hope would be is they will possible three varied looks of the PS4. Give consumers a choice.

Anyway, more game reveals, apps, controller in use detials, services and features. Heck maybe a less revelaing silohuette of the PS4. A tease without revealing until E3. They need build up to the reveal and launch. Within reason because has been seen in the past, some gamers get annoyed when they don't get what they want. You know who you are!

Keep Playing!

Show off the console, price and release.
Then at E3, nothing but the games.

I don't think they will show the console or prices or date until E3. The more they hold for E3, the more they can make a splash to dominate the show.

I think that this will be more of a reveal of PS4 specific features and services. Perhaps some more information about the cloud based services, or Vita integration. Probably tease a few more games and perhaps the new logo. I just feel like E3 would be a great venue to drown out everyone else with PS4 news.

More information on possible models of the system, or even something related to accessories might also be on the agenda.
