No New Tales Titles In The Works For Either PS4 Or Wii U

If you're hoping for a Tales title to arrive for the PlayStation 4 (or Wii U), those hopes might be futile. At least for a while.

Series producer Hideo Baba first informed PlayStation Vita owners that sadly, the latest two Tales remakes won't be leaving Japan. Then he said they don't plan to bring a new franchise installment to either Sony or Nintendo's new machines.

This according to Gimme Gimme Games:

"I think the Wii U is a brilliant console that offers a lot of innovation and possibility for new types of gameplay, However at this current time we don’t have any development plans to make any Tales of games for the Wii U. I’m sure you’re wondering, ‘Do you have any plans to develop for PS4 at this time?’ Just like the Wii U, we actually don’t have any plans."

That's unfortunate. JRPG fans can still count on a few upcoming titles but really, those Tales games are always intriguing for those who still enjoy the increasingly niche sub-genre. I still think there's a market for selling JRPGs, especially on PlayStation consoles, but times certainly have changed.

I imagine they'll make more eventually, I don't remember reading anywhere that the series is doing poorly. Mind you, I'm not the most informed person at the moment.

Currently no plans, I'm positive there will be multiple tales entries on both consoles.

rpgs are expensive to make and are not a billion dollar sale like cod. they HAVE to wait for a larger base. which is why i hope the ps4 is 399 or lower.

I hope that doesn't mean anything. We are getting Xillia but will we get Xillia 2?

Probably depends on how well Xillia sells. Graces F evidently sold at least well enough to translate Xillia, so I'm quite hopeful.

This is a bit of a blow.

I hope things change and they do eventually develop new titles, ASAP.

Anyway, the Wii U is relatively new and the PS4 is not even commercially available, so we still find ourselves waiting either way.

However, I am optimistic that we could see new titles next year... #wishfulthinking
if only JRPGs were less perceived as "a basement past time for weirdos" (outside Japan) and seen for what they really are- emotive, intelligent pieces of fine art (with cute girls and cool weapons/moves).

When he says that "the latest two Tales remakes won't be leaving Japan", is he referring to Tales of Hearts R? If so I'm officially crushed. I loved Graces F and still play it till this day with plans on getting Xillia day one. Man what a bummer. Hopefully we, at least, get Xillia 2.
