Gearbox Starting On Next Borderlands, Wanna Help Out?

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is out the door. Time for "the big one."

Developer Gearbox has started work on the next Borderlands entry, as they announced at PAX South (via GameSpot).

And if you're ready to become part of the team that will deliver this hugely anticipated project, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford wants to hear from you. As he said on his Twitter page:

"We are recruiting for next Borderlands. This is the big one. Industry badass? E-mail me: heyrandy@gearboxsoftware.com. We want to hear from passionate and talented people to help us with next Borderlands game. Check our website!"

Available jobs include lead writer and various artistic and technological positions; if you think you qualify for one, send over a resume. As for the game in question, Pitchford calls it the "big one" and it's almost certainly in development for new consoles (PlayStation 4, Xbox One) and PC.

Can't wait to learn more!

As one huge Borderlands fan to another: What do you hope they do (or don't do) in BL3?

I was a huge fan of Borderlands, and for me I hope they ad more customization options. I always hated how the Assassin and Sniper had the same skinny character model as the girl characters. Weird I know but it bugged me.

When I'm playing online I want to be able to make the character my own ya know.

I want the gameplay to become more varied, add in some puzzles, stealth etc, maybe a bit of platforming.

Lastly make enemies less meat sponge like, I want bosses with patterns, weak spots etc. I remember feeling like the bosses in Borderlands 2 were a little drap but it has been a while.

And a bazillion new guns added please. Also maybe more ways to mod your guns.

I agree with more customalization, both of character and weapons. Not so sure if I want a total character customalization (usually I do, but not in this franchise), but a touch more than the current outfit options would be nice. The online argument is very solid - it's dull with multiple identical characters.

I think they should keep the shooter aspect, not make stuff to stealthy or platformy. But a mild touch might be cool.

But I do agree with more variations on the bosses - in fact I'd like to see that with all the enemy types.

Also, crafting (the grinder in the pre-sequel is a good start).
And more vehicles and vehicle-mods!

Also a graphical upgrade. Keep the artistic style but boost it a bit.

I'd also like to see a bit more advanced pet classes. Issue commands, taqke control a bit more. Make some classes a bit harder to play, but with great rewards to those who bother.

I don't want anything to change in the way of gameplay, and mechanics. I think the system is well defined and suits co-op very well.

I would like there to be more customization in the characters. I don't mind the set characters but if I could tweak them beyond outfit colors that would be fun. The grinder is a good touch to keep new weaponry coming. I keep thinking I'd like weapon customization but then I realism that's what makes farming for an orange weapon so great is the lack of customization. So I'm on the fence with that one.

I would like to see more vehicle types.

I think the raid bosses are exceptional and each have a different technique and gun type to take them down more easily. However as much as it is the same for the different enemy types they just continue to get tougher as you level and at some point I'd like them to have less hit points and more strategy involved. One particular enemy is the goliath, you either take his head off or he gets pissed. Most other enemies are just shoot til dead.

I would like to see more puzzles thrown in but not platforming. This is a shooter through and through.

I also would like to see a higher level cap right away in the next play through rather than in the form of dlc. The reason is because it put a stand still to my gameplay in both Borderlands 2 and TPS. It came out quicker with TPS but I don't want it to halt my experience.

Aside from some minor things not much I guess. I really liked the classes from Borderlands 2, so I guess if anything stay more focused on making each character their own. I noticed in TPS the characters were all good at everything or at least could be. While B2 the characters played to their strengths. It sounds like the dlc characters for TPS have certain specific gun types they are better with.

I like the cell shading but make it nicer as you said.

Actually I would like the inclusion of dungeons of some sort. Missions that you can replay with limited xp for completing it. I like the raid bosses just fine but if they were deeper into the map so that you go through a specific area to get to them rather than having to go through the main map over and over again. Idk.

You are both against the platforming eh haha. I only meant small amounts of it, and maybe only have it be in certain dungeons where it makes sense. Say there are platforms in an acid pool and you have to jump on them to get across etc.

Either way I hugely agree with both of your wants for this game.

I do like the locked characters because you can give em personality but I think you could make almost total character customization but keep the voices and personality in there for each class.

Phantasy star online did this really well. There were about 9 class/race combos but you could change their height, hair, girth, colour etc.

It was very rare to run into someone the exact same as you.

I would like something like this, let me warp their frame an features a bit. I'm sick of playing Zero, and mordecai and having them have the build of a 12 year old boy :P

I don't think they will change the graphics, borderlands main identity is its humour and graphics style.

I hope they use unreal engine 4 and make it even more detailed cell shading, with better pixar like facial animations etc. That would be dope.

One other thing I would really like - and beam touched on it a bit - is controlling your "pets". What I'm referring to are Axtons turrets, or Wilhelms wolf and saint.

I started playing Tales from the Borderlands last night - which is absolutely fantastic by the way - and they included being able to control the attacks of hyperion bots. Although this was pretty scripted it made me happy and I just thought of all the wonderful things this could bring to Borderlands (3, I presume).

I hope they make a huge fantastic world where up to 6 people can play with each other. I also hope the boss battles are more fair and balanced. I want just plain ole run and gun bosses, not doing something stupid to beat them.

I want the story to really rock though. I am playing Destiny and Destiny's story sucks ass. Just so short.

Six are too many! I'd say two is the perfect amount of coop players in a game like Borderlands, with an absolute max of three. Four becomes way too chaotic, I can't even begin to think how six would work.

Oh I love Borderlands with 4 people. 3 is actually my favorite but in the raids 4 is a lot of fun.

This is going to be an crowed over competitive choosing process. I already loosely know what I would do with a new gen BL. But without any good components to put on a resume it's actually kind of depressing.

there is so much you can do with the BL mechanic! But to convey that to the developers against so many others...

Someday. Someday.
