Devs Not Talking About Microtransactions For MKX "Yet"

Seems like just about every major title these days has them.

Although it does stand to reason that the fighting genre would benefit greatly from microtransactions; extra outfits, arenas, characters, etc.

NetherRealm Studios marketing boss Brian Goodman told IGN that while they're not ready to discuss microtransactions, it's definitely implied that they will exist for the upcoming Mortal Kombat entry.

"We are not releasing any details on that yet. Nothing to say about microtransactions yet."

There's a decent chance the team might use them in conjunction with the Krypt feature but really, there's no way to tell just yet. Most gamers have voiced their dislike of microtransactions but they remain a big part of the industry...because people keep buying them, of course.

Mortal Kombat X is scheduled to release on April 14.

As much as I dislike microtransactions, they aren't going anywhere. There will always, ALWAYS, be someone willing to spend a little cash to save time, or circumvent working for something. ALWAYS. Be it the weekend gamer who wants the stats to beat a area in an RPG but doesn't have grind time, the guy who wants that slick race car but doesn't have the skill to unlock it, the person who wants xyz but doesn't want to do abc.

Those people are always going to exist for better or worse. What bugs me is when there are paywalls to content that's needed to fully experience the game. I don't care about time save packs, doesn't affect me because I will either put in the work or I won't have said item. Costumes don't bother me as long as I get the patch to see them in multiplayer instead of limiting my opponent base. But, when you start sectioning off levels and characters and entire sections of the game I get a little miffed. Now, addon content isn't so much a problem, because if the dev works after releasing the game to bring new content then yeah, I figure I should have to pay for their work, but when entire sections of the game are done and ready to go at release but sit behind a fee, I get upset, and rightly so in my eyes. The work is done, you completed the game and that content was part of that so why should I have to pay more when you haven't done anything in the way of extra work on new content?

So, the types of microtransactions that are TYPICALLY seen in fighting games isn't really an issue for me. Costumes, new characters after release, new stages, time saving unlocks of content that you can fight to get, all that type of thing is a moot point for me.

all the more reason to hold buying this until the Komplete edition releases some 12-18 months later.

EDIT: ...and btw I buy a new DOA time and again because I'm competitively engaged in that franchise. For MK I largely come for the thrills and content alone.

No I'm not that competitive. I just play ranked matches online. I've got way too much going on in my life to do local events. I'm way passed my prime but I still enjoy the thrill of the fight. And I still give many of them young bucks enough of a fight.

Oh thought you were competitively engaged. Online is the worst. Only used for live opponent practice.
