Sony Announces PlayStation Heroes Charity Initiative

Here's Sony's chance to give back, and your chance to play games with a celebrity.

Sony has announced a new PlayStation 4 charity campaign that lets gamers have a shot at playing with celebs like Snoop Dogg and Shaun White.

Sony teamed up with various charitable organizations such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, The V Foundation for Cancer Research, and the USO. The initiative is dubbed PlayStation Heroes and it kicks off on February 24; a free PS4 app will let users purchase digital content, and "at least 90 percent" of the proceeds will go to charity.

At launch, the three aforementioned organizations will be involved and SCEA will donate $100,000 to each group to get things rolling. If you download that app, you won't just be able to buy content, you'll also learn about about upcoming celebrity gaming events. You can pre-order this app right now and if you do, you'll gain access to new PS4 themes (ranging in price from $1 to $15). Each dollar spent gives the buyer a sweepstakes entry for a Heroes event in March.

That's when Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White will play Destiny for the Make-A-Wish organization, for instance. I wonder if he's any good...

Yeah, whats wrong with a company who will donate their money to foundations that helps kids get their last dying wish.

Good grief... I know you're god forsaken troll, but even trolls have a soul.

Expand your very limited and under developed brain. Maybe then you'll succeed at being a troll.

I was at the reveal event. Snoop performed for an hour and we were right up front and center with our hands on the stage. Steph Curry, Yasiel Puig and Shaun White were all approachable. The venue was classy and an open bar was a plus. A memorable experience. This initiative has potential but must be constantly promoted. I suggested to some of the Sony staff to think about implementing activities and Trophies into the PlayStation Heroes App. This initiative may someday die down but Trophies last forever. ;)
