Deep Down Not Canceled, Returning With Brand New Design

Remember when PlayStation 4 was first unveiled and this amazing-looking game from Capcom was teased?

That game was Deep Down, a supposed free-to-play online dungeon-crawler with action/RPG elements. Unfortunately, the game seems to be taking a lot longer than we thought, so it has fallen off the radar.

What's the deal? Well, producer Yoshinori Ono answered that very question in a recent 4gamer interview (as translated by DualShockers):

"It seems that Deep Down will take a little bit more time. Word on the street is that we canceled its development, but thatís not true (laughs)."

Ono went on to say they're going to present gamers with a "completely different form;" he admits the previous design "probably was not good." As an online game, Ono knows the game has to be properly developed and if it isn't, it spells trouble. That's probably true but there were other aspects of the game people didn't like...the F2P part, for instance. Has that changed as well?

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just another absurd delay in the video game software industry especially for next gen consoles...commonplace now

insert Japanese in there, both for ps3 & ps4 gen. For some reason they seem completely incapable of finishing a game before the entire generation has passed, to then be cancelled...

I thought this was one of the better looking trailers back in the day...oh well. Here's hoping they add a single player experience to it.

Turn it into a real full production, ditch the online in favor of co-op and make it a mix of Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma. Then you got a game.
