The Order: 1886 Is #1 On UK Sales Chart

Controversy often results in great sales.

And whether it's due to controversy, consumers siding with the better reviews, or gamers simply buying the game 'cuz they like what they've seen, The Order: 1886 is atop the UK charts.

As GamesIndustry.biz reports, the new PlayStation 4 exclusive has debuted at #1 atop the weekly UK charts. In fact, it's the first Sony exclusive to hit #1 since last year's The Last Of Us: Remastered. The Order replaced previous kingpin Evolve, which lost 66 percent of its initial sales in its first week.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare was the runner-up, while Evolve, Far Cry 4, and Grand Theft Auto V round out the top 5. Wonder what the US charts will look like...

Well i think the order 1886 is a great game, its not a masterpiece (well i think the graphics are), it deserves to be number 1 in the charts, be good to see how long it can stay there., also want say digitial trends review was an absolute joke.

Nice. All the quicker gamestop's shelves will fill with used copies and price reductions.

$5? I'd spend the extra $5 and help keep the developer afloat. RAD is a good developer. Perhaps just misread the market with this one,

More like $25 for me jawknee. when GameStop gets overloaded with used copies they tend to mark them down faster than normal once the game meets its popularity decline which won't be long. Too many used copies, not enough buyers equals reduced prices. The preorder mountain was natural for this game. Lots of ps4 owners desperate for exclusive shooters ;)

Of course your logic makes sense I just don't see it happening so fast. Not a $25 drop anyway. GameStop is just too invested in charging nearly full price for used games. They tend not to drop their prices until MSRP drops. Call of Duty Ghosts is only going for $10 less than the current new retail price of $29.99.

Trust me. I'm in no rush to play it.

CoD's market is largely different being multiplayer driven, and I wouldn't consider that a good point of comparison in this instance as CoD has been the exception for a number of years. That and Nintendo games which don't drop in price fast either.

Jawknee Destiny was down to $40 brand new even at places such as Walmart within a month of release so it very well may happen.

@ Jawknee - I'm not sure they misread the market (indeed, it's #1 on the UK sales charts!), I just think they did their own thing and didn't pander to the mainstream gaming media, which is something I think we'd all like. Literally everyone I know (as in, my mates online) who is playing it is enjoying it, and I'm having a blast as well. It's definitely not for everyone (the ADHD crowd, for one), but it's also definitely a quality game. Any review giving it lower than 7/10 is a joke.

A 7 still isn't that good. It's not terrible but for what is supposed to be a AAA PS4 title, a 7 is still disappointing.

The Order is Def a 8/10 game... It's not a masterpiece by any means but the graphics are oustanding, so is the sound, and the gameplay is good... And contrary to what most ppl have said I've found the QTEs to be quite fun

Oh I misread what you said about Ghosts, Jawknee.
I suppose whenever I used game shop GameStop it's only for their bargain bin games, which are usually stuffed with quality games, though a few years older, and they're $5 to $10.
I won't wait that long for Order of course.
In all probability I'll likely grab it from Gamefly. they blow out newer games for cheap fast.

I have so many different games to play right now, buying anything full price is just stupid unless I'm just dying to play it.

Haven't finished it, but my only real concern was the much-discussed length. I'm on Chapter 8 and have put in almost as many hours, so I guess it's all in how you play it.
Seriously hard to believe some of those reviews, though. On the technical side, it's rather masterful. That's not even debatable. If it looks like your kind of game/story, I don't see how one wouldn't enjoy it.

After reading on Crave that the Ready at Dawn were questioning the need to send review copies out, I believe things will eventually change as far as the critics go. I see reviews as sort of a dinosaur awaiting an extinction level event. Perhaps R.A.D. pulling advertising would start a chain reaction.

I don't read reviews for other than to see if the game has technical issues and bugs. I don't care about reviewers OPINIONS on how dull the gameplay is or how the story sucks, etc.. It's all subjective anyways and nobody is even remotely qualified to tell me what I would or wouldn't like.

EDIT- Glad the game did well in the U.K.

ah. it's a very interesting point indeed about the review copies going out.

Eurogamer also denounced their rating system recently. I feel this gen will bring about a change in relationship between the critic and the publisher.

Ubisoft did something similar with The Crew.

I also feel using Metacritic as a holy grail encourages the market to move towards sameness. Where the only voice that really matters is the voice that considers every voice as one in the same.

Well said - in the case of The Order, consumers were better served just taking in the marketing material straight, than paying any attention to the 'mainstream' gaming media. You know journalism's got to a sorry state when they're more misleading than the marketing material!

I hope so. If they can expand on everything they did here, and add some more supernatural elements to the story and gameplay then the sequel could be a masterpiece.

I'm dying to return to the world they created here.

So the top 5 consists of mediocre shooters and a last gen port. Yeah, the gaming industry is doing just fine and isn't dying right in front of us.

You don't just need to play the top five games on the charts. If you don't like the mass market stuff, there's heaps of other stuff out there doing well, you just need to know where to look for it :).

Max: Imagine that. Two people of two completely different backgrounds have two completely different opinions on the same thing. My statement was not an order and demand for everyone to feel as I do.
I've gamed very hard in every era and this seems to be the most devoid of originality as it has ever been. The Order is a shining example. People defend it because it's a functional third person shooter that blends different ideas from other games but that's all it does and that's why it got blasted to holy hell. 7th gen ideas in an 8th gen suit should not be lauded by anyone wanting this industry to be daring. Period. And, I'm sorry having a mini cutscene for everything from turning a door knob to picking up a penny does not mean that RAD had grand vision that needs to be defended. Every game is someone's "vision". A vision should surpass expectation. In this case, at least for me, it is falling short.

Yes, Max, I know you probably feel different. That's the beauty of this being human thing.

Axe: I got The Order, Life Is Strange, Kirby and The Rainbow Curse, DOA5: Last Round, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate, The Saboteur, and Alien Soldier in the rotation now, so there's no shortage of gaming in the house. I just pine for the days where new great ideas and games didn't have to be searched out, they were everywhere. Back when Sega, Square, Capcom, and Konami were firing on all cylinders and we had a perfect marriage of West and East hitting our consoles. Now the East is almost gone and the West is too damn scared to lose a dime to take a chance on something special. They do, just not in the abundance it once was.

Beam: Wasn't alway like that. Great games were a year round affair

Now you go back a very long time ago Kid, back to when gaming were a more niche hobby and xmas sales didn't matter that much because the kids was given other stuff for xmas and had to buy their own games.

Since then it's been common with a release schedule buildup before xmas that leaves jan/feb pretty dry.

After this:

"The Order does not live up to my expectations; it's not the GotY contender and AAA exclusive I'd hoped it'd be. That will be reflected in my score. However, there's a lot to say concerning this game and I'll say it soon...expect to see the review on Monday."
