Rumor: PS4's Next Big Update Drops At The End Of March

Maybe it's almost time to make PlayStation 4 even better.

Last October, we got a firmware update dubbed "Masamune" and it delivered a host of cool features, such as SharePlay and background music. But when's the next major update arrive?

Well, according to industry insider Tidux, we'll get it at the end of March, when firmware update 2.04 arrives. This follows hot on the heels of Sony community manager Fred Dutton telling PlayStation fans on the PS Blog, "the next update is not too far out."

Tidux believes the update that drops on March 29 will have some new features, and will also offer improvements for developers. Everything is pretty vague right now but perhaps Sony will dish out the details soon.

I'm pretty sure only the announcement of native PSX support would cause me to raise an eyebrow.

More stability? Hahahaha

Kidding aside, the ability to suspend and resume a game by putting it in Rest Mode was a promised feature that has yet to arrive. Hopefully we'll see that delivered in the next update.

I would expect that in 3.0 thought jawknee. Sony tends to put their bigger features on the rounded figure firmwares.

Let me guess, it will bring new functionality to the share play feature. Looks that's the only thing Sony cares about.

I wish it could cath feature parity with the previous console though.

Yes please! Feature parity would be very much appreciated.

Since Sony claims to care for their community, it would be nice if they added full music support (music cds playable, importable, transferring digital music files to the hard drive as well, and more background music compatibility), digital video and pic file support, with a large amount of supported file types for each also, which would help strengthen my trust in them that much more. I don't know if it's possible already to do all that with an external HDD connected, but that would be great also. Especially since the PS3 can do those things, and this is a console that's supposed to be x times faster and more powerful. Please don't misunderstand here, I really do like the PS4, but I think it should be a step forward and not backwards in terms of general available supported media playback features and capabilities.

The new PlayStation feautures found on the PS4, such as Party Chat (which is very much appreciated), as well as Remote Play and Share Play (both of which I have not tried yet) are probably nice options too, but it's a shame that it hasn't carried over all of the PS3's capabilities yet.

Hopefully before too much longer, it will. Also backwards compatibility with the full library of discs would also be amazing.... ah to dream. Thanks you very much to Sony if anyone is listening and can help make this possible.

I hope they add pause feature where it allows you to put it in standby while your game is still running. That will be awesome once it finally arrives. Don't know if they will add DLNA to the ps4 sometime, maybe not..

I hope it will include streaming and music storage ala the PS3...
Just the other day in order to play an audio cd through my stereo system I needed to dig out my Ps2 and hook that up through my AVR.

How disappointing.

Oh yeah I know, but thankfully I still have my PS3. Sometimes, thing is, sometimes it's in a different room.

I'm still waiting for the media playback they said they would be bringing back. There's no reason they couldn't have fairly quickly brought back CD ripping and streaming media from a local network location...other than the obvious reason of NOT WANTING TO (but not admitting to that like the P*SSIES they are).
