Project CARS Suffers Another Delay, Now Set For "Mid-May"

Here's another game that has suffered multiple delays.

And it's time for yet another: Last month, we learned that the hugely promising racing simulator, Project CARS, got pushed into April. Now, however, developer Slightly Mad Studios says we have to wait a little longer.

As of now, the game in question will launch in mid-May for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Here's the team's lengthy explanation via press release:

"Despite our long heritage and pedigree in making critically-acclaimed racing games, Project CARS is by far the grandest and most intricately detailed of them all. Despite therefore the game being 99.9% complete, the remaining 0.1% attending to small issues and bugs has been tricky to anticipate. We’re absolutely dedicated to delivering a ground-breaking experience and by targeting mid-May fans can be assured that’s what they’ll receive.

"Again, we want to thank our fans for their support and patience on this matter. There’s a high expectancy from racing fans around the world that Project CARS is going to be an exciting new contender in the simulation racing space and we firmly believe gamers deserve it to be in its most complete and polished state when they come to play it on day one. And since the gaming community is our primary focus and has always been at the heart of the project during development, we would like to offer some free content to all players as compensation for this short delay and as acknowledgement of how grateful we are. This gift, that we’re sure is going to excite fans, will be available from day one and revealed shortly. Keep an eye on our website for more info."

Project CARS aims to be one of the most authentic, realistic driving games ever to be created. This kind of thing takes time. But admittedly, we're all getting a little tired of hearing about delays in this generation, aren't we?

As a fan of the Gran Turismo series I'm accustomed to waiting. I hope this game is everything it looks to be!

From fall, to March, to end of March, then all the way to May. They're either making light of the situation, or they actually do know what they're doing. At one point, it should start to be concerning.

My guess is with little competition out there now, they don't feel as pressured. I'm pretty sure if competition is tight in spring, they would just release the 99.9% and do a patch. .01 percent doesn't really seem something you'd delay for over a month. Hope they get it together.

This game needs to take advantage before gran turismo and Forza start making headlines.

Indeed daus26.

Project Cars must be an exceptional game on all fronts because honestly speaking I don't buy that PR statement one bit. Shift 2 (made by SMS) was one of the worst racing games I have ever played and in fact, I got rid of it the same week I bought the title.

I have heard that the console version of Project Cars is lacking polish, I am concerned. I will not be pre-ordering this title and will hold off on the purchase until I see what several Gran Turismo fans have to say about it.

Would rather wait a few more months for a polished game than suffer through a series of updates.

All the delays are getting frustrating, but I'm trying to be patient. I guess even though this gens tech is easier on them, the sheer size and complexity of these games is probably making it harder to predict development time frames. Even small problems become big time consuming headaches.

The game is fine as of the last build I played. The physics still has some work that needs to be done however, but for the most part it's just in the polishing phase now.

well thats sounds amazing and really looking forward to this game as driveclub was up to my racing sim game standards. as shift 1 on ps3 was fine great game i'm hope for something like that or better with project cars which it promisies to be and well i don't mind the delay to much as i'd rather have no patch and the game working fine when i put it in the disc drive of the ps4 when it comes out

happy gaming
