Ready At Dawn Behind-The-Scenes With The Order's Graphics

The Order: 1886 is one of the most controversial games of the new generation.

But there's one thing on which just about everyone agrees: The graphics are amazing.

If you were particularly impressed with the incredible visual presentation of an alternate-reality Victorian Era London, Ready at Dawn has a behind-the-scenes video for you. They also discuss the immense amount of work involved in this project; it was no mean feat. Here's a snippet from Creative Director Ru Weerasuriya:

"We felt that the aesthetic we were seeking had not yet been realized in games. All we needed to do was materialize the things that were on our head into a 3D environment. That was definitely easier said than done, but we knew that over the years we had assembled the right team to tackle this goal. Our visual target was not only influenced by the era itself, it was guided by real world techniques from photography and cinematography, both old and new. We had to find a way to recreate the texture of the real world and the imperfections we have been so accustomed to in all we see, whether with our own eyes or through the lens of a camera."

With Uncharted 4 out of the running we're likely looking at the best graphics of the year award right here.

It's one cool looking game. I'm on my second play through. Been doing it on Vita remote play.

I dunno, we have the Witcher 3 and MGS5 both games look stunning. However those games are mutliplatform so they might not look as good as the demos they have showed running on the PC.

I would say its going to be up there for best graphics, but The witcher 3 man....that game looks crazy good.

Both Witcher 3 and MG5 are open world games, and so, they won't be able to squeeze in as much texture detail and graphical fidelity as has been crafted in a very linear game such as Order 1866. However, no doubt they'll be breath taking, no less, as I'm sure they'll also garner better critical and consumer reception. I'm figuring in terms of graphics, Kojima san will pull a clear lead.

Project Cars also looks mind-numbingly good, heck even Just Cause 3 looks fantastic if you ask me. So there will be some serious competition in the graphics department this year, especially if you - as Shams so rightfully point out - take scope into the equation.

I've seen enough of Witcher 3 in video to know that it's character models and attention to minor detail won't do it for me. Yes. It'll have vastness and all the expected open world perks of a volume over details approach. But in the end it won't touch Order 1886.
It's not that other great looking games won't look great. It's just real unlikely they'll look as good as Order. It's a huge standard to rise to.

ANd it's not just a technical one too. It also has an artistic aspect to it that goes beyond polygons and numbers. It's ornately detailed lore it references is unique to today's games.
The filmic approach in both camera direction and filters in the game is also a rarity among games. It wins points for that as well.

I believe the top contenders will be Order, MGSV, Batman, and AC Victory.
My guess is Order 1886.

wellll, ill def agree it has some amazing graphics. so detailed and just something beautiful to stare at through out the game.

BUT, im stickler for small detail and they failed at one thing to where i thought theyd consider. i caught this within the first 2 min of playing the game:

spoiler alert if you havent played already

when you kill the guards in the beginning in your jail cell (or where ever it was they were drowning you) theres blood on the floor. when you step over it and walk around....theres no blood trails. your feet are completely dry. i mean yeah its a small minor detail, but lets just say the first time i played uncharted 1 and stepped into water. wow.

agreed, i always notice small stuff like that. It doesn't affect how i feel about the game, but i noticed that there weren't any reflections in the mirrors either and i saw it everyy time i walked past one

Some of the best camera work I've seen was done in this game. It did make it feel as though you were watching everything unfold while standing behind the character. Great camera work makes all the difference. The Last of Us and Battlefield 4 do this well too. Where you can see how it affects gameplay and the overall experience just play God of War III(great camera work) then play Ascension(bad camera work by comparison).

I hope RAD gets to make a sequel. They have great techniques. They just need to make the next one less scripted and claustrophobic.
