More Bloodborne Info: PlayStation 4 Power Proved Essential

Going into next week's Bloodborne launch, you can't claim you're unprepared.

Developer From Software hasn't been shy about sharing details and footage for the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, and the latest batch of info comes courtesy of a recent interview conducted by Multiplayer and Dualshockers (which you can see in its entirety here).

Masaaki Yamagiwa, a producer for Sony Japan, which assisted From Software in the development process, first talked about the power of Sony's latest console. We've heard it before, too: The game in question is only possible thanks to PS4's capability:

There are plenty of things that we were able to do with the PS4 that we haven’t been able to do before. One example is the weapons that transform in the middle of the game, they extend, they retract, they change in all these different ways and they do it in a very graceful way, lots of different actions and motions and we wouldn’t have been able to do that without the power of the PS4."

He added that the beautiful environments we'll traverse are "directly connected to each other," which is another benefit of a powerful machine. If you see the interview, you'll hear about a few more details (some of which we've learned before). It's interesting about that transforming weapons, isn't it? Wonder how that will impact the gameplay, and if we have full control over such transformations.

Bloodborne releases on March 24 in the US and March 27 in the UK.

There is full control over the transformable weapons, to the point where some (if not all) can transform mid-combo

I doubt it but nice to hear. More ammunition for PS fanboys to use I guess.

This is a pretty cool piece of programming kit and makes me even more excited for this game.

But if post-release information about gruelling difficulty is confirmed, I may still pass because, as much as I loved every other Souls game, I want a game I can enjoy playing while being challenged. And that lightning boss doesn't make me very hopeful...

I love it when developers get all passionate about their craft. You don't hear that quite as much from the blockbuster hits.

I am kind of tired of hearing "It can only be done with power of the ps4". If that's the case release it for PC where they can pull all that off with up to 4k resolution and 60fps. Regardless I know it will be great and already have it paid in full for my ps4. Just one more week!

I'm sure there are lots of benefits to keeping it on a closed console.

@underdog15 To boost ps4 sales of course. Its a dry year exclusive wise for consoles.

False. I think it's a misrepresentation of what is being stated here. The obvious connection with Bloodborne is the last generation of consoles; not PC.

My aging PC ran DS2 without breaking a sweat. The console version of the same game received a lighting model downgrade to keep the FPS or some crazy, horrible, excuse to gimp the PC version.

Edit: sounds like I'm implying that it was done on purpose to gimp PC. That's not my intention. Done on purpose to keep the game running smoothly on consoles.

I believe it's back intact for the re-release.

"To boost PS4 sales, of course"

I think you've missed my point. How dry this year is for exclusives has nothing to do with it.

My point more lies with consoles on a big tv in a living room is more attractive to most people than sitting in a computer chair in front of a computer screen.

Don't get me wrong, I play on PC too, have a steam account, etc. But only games that are better suited for a keyboard/mouse combo, like FFXIV. (Of course, since release, you can now play with mouse/keyboard on PS4 anyways, but w/e) And I have a logitech dualshock-clone controller as well.

But I still prefer to play on a console. And now that I have way less time to play games than I did when I built this PC, I doubt I'll ever upgrade to a gaming-capable PC again. Reason? Cost. It will be cheaper to use what little gaming time I have on a console, which is still more than adequate and can still be very pretty. (That and I prefer playing on the couch with a scotch nearby)
