PlayStation Vue: More Details, Three Bundle Options Revealed

PlayStation Vue, Sony's new streaming television service, is right around the corner.

Vue is currently available in New York, Philadelphia, and Chicago, and Sony's plan is to expand as quickly as possible. The company announced plenty more details concerning the new service, including the subscription packages.

Also, during a recent GameSpot interview, SNE vice president Eric Lempel explained the roll-out further:

"Everything we've launched usually comes out by country. In this case, because we felt local programming was important to the users, we wanted to make sure we got those deals signed so that it involves the local affiliates individually. But this year, we will be delivering a lot of new markets, so it's something that will evolve very quickly."

Lempel dubbed Vue "a complete TV offering" and it should be given the price. As you can see through the link above, it will cost you $50, $60, or $70 per month, depending on which subscription plan you choose. However, while those numbers may seem high when compared with Netflix and Hulu, Sony says they're competing with cable companies like Comcast and in that way, Vue is certainly cheaper. If you're wondering why they went with only bundle options, Lempel has an answer for that, too:

"We looked at that ... But you'll quickly see that if you choose a few of those, you'll be at a price much higher than our tiers. In our research and talking to consumers, they really did want that bundled offering. ... I think we'll continue to see this space evolve and similar to what we've done in the past, this product will evolve. We're adding new networks on a regular basis; we're in talks with a lot people."

You don't need PlayStation Plus to access Vue, by the way. On top of which, Vue will be accessible simultaneously via three different devices at no extra cost (even though this only includes one PS4 at a time). And yes, commercials will be included but you can record to DVR and fast-forward through them if you want.

Well, what do you think? Vue is definitely cheaper than my cable bill, I know that much. I still wouldn't get all the channels I get now, though... Learn even more by visiting the PlayStation Blog.

Too expensive to make the switch from cable. My cable and internet is bundled, so a lone tv service would have to be as lot cheaper than this.

well i can tell you people will want to cut cable and if this is the thing that gives people what thay want with out the need for a cable box they will cut the cord i know in my family we might be cos my dad is getting fed up with the cable company so hes trying to figure out how we can go unlimited internet and streaming everything which i think would be way easier and just get some free tv box for national tv programming

happy gaming

Damn. That's too expensive for the switch. My Internet with Comcast would double in price, leaving me with a bill that's $20 heavier than the current and losing a lot of channels.

Ahh.. A shame.

Exactly, Sony does not know how to price their services.
$70 + Internet provider will leave you with a higher bill and less channels...
Also my Cable company gives me Tivo as part of my package, can't beat that.
This service will never have any traction at this price point.

You should switch provider Ben :) Even the $50 package is more than I was paying for my U200 package and with way less channels and then I also have discounted Internet, HD DVR etc + the promotional reward cards I got for signing up. Even Time Warner has internet + basic TV service for $44.99, so what's really the market for this at those prices??

I Think this is a good thing, I know internet+tv packages drive down cost, BUT you also have to take into account 2 extra boxes, which for me is 20$ extra so it's my bill +20$ which even with promo's is ridiculously priced. I'd hapily switch to the 50$ package because the 5 channels I actually watch are on it live and I can get it to the places I watch tv. 10/10 will switch when available to me.
