"Power Struggles" Resulting In Kojima's Departure From Konami?

Hideo Kojima is on record saying Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be the last official entry in the series.

We've heard him say it before but maybe he really means it this time. ...or maybe he'll be forced out before he's ready.

It seems quite the drama is unfolding between Kojima Productions and the owning publisher, Konami. According to what an inside source told GameSpot, senior staff at the developer has restricted access to corporate Internet, emails and phone. On top of which, "key developers at the studio," including Kojima, will have limited opportunities to help promote the game. "Power struggles" are resulting in dramatic changes and the source claims that once MGSV is done, the management will be gone:

"After we finish MGSV, Mr. Kojima and upper management will leave Konami. They said their contract ends in December."

It appears the schism is already happening, as Konami has started to remove the Kojima Productions logo from all official Metal Gear art. Kojima isn't part of the executive team anymore, either. Are these two parties really going their separate ways...? Wow.

Moments later Kojima receives a phone call from MS's Phil Spencer.
"Mr Kojima I have a blank check for you and I'll write any amount on it if you help us fill out our portfolio of XO exclusives ASAP."

That is a possibility seeing that he's been on Microsoft's E3 conference a few times already.

That would be very smart of MS, hopefully Kojima will just go independent and Work on some PS4 exclusive, since that is the real NextGen console.

F*ck Konami... I mean who needs them. I can't believe that Kojima hasn't left that rathole long time ago. But on the other hand, poor Konami lost a great asset, the likes of which will never be seen again for a very long time.

Congratulations to Kojima for spreading his wings. It's been a long time coming.

Would be so bad and so wrong if this was leading up an Aprils fools joke. Then again that is another whole week and few days away. What about Silent Hills!!!

It will be left in the hands of some unproven team to ruin it like Silent Hill always is.

Well MGS is like the only solid franchise they have left, at least globally.

I will remember Konami for Suikoiden and Vandal Hearts.

Good luck on the mobile devices!

Considering the big Sony fanboy Kojima is, I'd say Sony would have a new first party developer.

I don't think so, ZOE never sold a lot so I doubt that it's in any of Konami's business plan.

I hope this doesn't compromise the development of The Phantom Pain, we only have 6 months now and I don't want the experience to be ruined,. I don't know what Konami are thing, Metal Gear Solid, is the only big franchise the company has going for it, so distrusting development and being nasty before release is not wise.

It would be a shame if Kojima is not involved with Silent Hills as PT shows a lot of potential. But I'd love to see Kojima work on a new IP all together. But firstly, The Phantom Pain must be completed and polished off to perfection.... And I mean perfection.

Assuming this is real and he is actually leaving the company, as opposed to this just being a corporate shakeup which happens from time to time, it's probably ultimately a good thing for Kojima. He has to be tired of working on the same franchise and same lead character/s for decades now. Outside of Pro Evolution Soccer, MGS is their biggest franchise ever, so Konami is pretty reliant on it. They've already announced today they'll be making more Metal Gear with or without Kojima.

I look forward to seeing what he does when given the chance to do something original for the first time in years.

I have only two questions - to whom belongs MGS rights and Fox Engine rights? I belive that fox engine is 100% Kojima Productions intelectual property and I want to belive that Konami have only rights to use it, then Kojima could do some legal damage to Konami. Cause what are they doing right now (hiring new desingers and ready to make ne MG series without Kojima) is an insult for Kojima and his fans. Or maybe it is just PR move before 1-st april to make some another annoucment. Because for me what is happening right now is pure idiocity what Konami is doing.

Without Kojima, isn't Konami left with PES as the only other franchise that makes money for them?

Sorry, I can't think of anything else they make that's profitable. To me, Konami = Kojima.

Sad to see this happen...

Wow. Okay so Konami is now making another MG... This comes shortly after Kojima stating there won't be another.
It looks like Konami didn't agree with Kojima and wanted him to make another whether he liked it or not and he refused and left.
That's what it looks like anyway.

This has to be a set up for April fools coming up bc there is no way Konami can be so stupid to let this guy go
Then again it would be fun to see what new original ideas for new IPs he has... If this is real all I know is that whatever company gets a hold of him will be lucky to be part of his next big franchise

We've known for some time the video games industry as we've known it was on the cusp of major change... but this is the first change that genuinely unsettled me. Konami is my favorite publisher of all time -- Metal Gear, Castlevania, Contra, Life Force, TMNT Arcade... the list goes on. With Kojima's departure, they've signaled they are all but abandoning their status as a traditional game publisher. It's like Warner Bros. deciding to divest entirely from films to focus on youtube videos.

The only upside I see is that apparently Kojima will have a chance to take his enormous talents to, y'know, a game company that likes to make games. He'll get to spread his wings now that he's not tied to MGS anymore (after 5 ships, of course.) But my goodness am I ever going to miss the Konami that was...

I want to add my speculation that this news is very similiar in some ways what right now happend with Jeremy Clarkson. I want to believe that this is some trolling and PR, but my logic and recent update from Konami tells me that this is all true.
