Analyst: Early PS4 Reveal Didn't Change Anything For Microsoft
Few expected Sony to announce the PlayStation 4 when they did. It really surprised a lot of people, including analysts and various industry insiders.
Therefore, perhaps it was fair to assume that such an announcement put some extra pressure on Microsoft. Would it cause them to rush? Might they suddenly want to unveil their new Xbox before they had planned?
But they certainly haven't acted rushed. In fact, one Microsoft executive was quoted as saying he "doubted anyone even noticed" when the PS4 was revealed. And now, EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich disagrees with the idea that Microsoft has felt any pressure due to the PS4 unveiling. As he told NowGamer:
"It’s never too little too late for Microsoft. They are the incumbent. Microsoft operates at its own pace and I don’t think the PS4 announcement has fundamentally changed their next-generation strategy."
As for what we can expect when the new Xbox console is unveiled next month, Divnich said to anticipate some publishers we didn't see during Sony's PlayStation Meeting. For instance, conspicuously absent from the PS4 announcement party were publishers like Electronic Arts, and we heard nothing about Call of Duty, either, and the new entry is rumored to be another cross-generation title this year.
"I’d imagine that Microsoft unveil will be a lead into E3, where they will provide greater detail on the console. It’s a solid strategy and it gives them some time to adjust their E3 presentation to reflect the sentiment coming out of the big unveil."
Oh, it's going to be pretty wild ride leading up to the launches of these two systems. One huge wacky roller-coaster.
