Infinity Ward Seeking Help For "Exciting" Next-Gen Title

It seems as if all the big developers are turning their attention to the next round of game consoles.

Now it's Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward's turn to look ahead, as evidenced by a new job listing for a Senior Network Engineer.

As you might expect, they're saying the project in question is currently "unannounced" but they do confirm it's for "next generation console systems." We've often wondered if IW would deliver anything but CoD; maybe they will, maybe they won't, but many are certainly hoping for a Modern Warfare 4. And when that game arrives, likely in late 2013 as per CoD tradition, it could be available for at least one new piece of hardware.

Here's part of the job description:

"Come work with the game industry's brightest to design and implement high level network code for an exciting unannounced title for next generation console systems."

For now, Activision only has the Bungie-developed "Destiny" project on their next-gen slate but that's bound to change soon. As for Infinity Ward, we think they should make an RPG. ...all right, maybe not.

A RPG from Infinity Ward you say? Heck why not, we can never have too many RPGs. :)

I honestly can not imagine them making something other than a shooter. It would certainly be intresting to see what kind of genre it would be if it wasn't.

Yeah, actually it would be real interesting. My first post here were mainly just a silly comment but just like with Naughty Dog it would be great to see what *else* these guys could come up with, outside their "comfort zone".

They sure know their multiplayer shooters. But what else can they do? I'd love to see that.

And who's even left... Bowling left in march, and from some of his statements it sounds like craptavision is just rolling out the same old same old...

I highly doubt it will be Modern Warfare 4.

Never played MW2 or 3's story (really don't give a damn, since MW1's ending turned out great) so I can't say their will be making MW4, but judging by the numbers it could be pretty obvious. I would like to see a fresh FPS Call of Duty myself.

Maybe they are actually trying to get someone to fix there terrible network code for the next CoD?

I'm just waiting for the Call of Duty MMOFPS, what better way to milk the franchise?

Treyarch's versions > Infinity Ward's versions of COD. I just had to get that out of my system, feels pretty good.

Not sure if I prefer BLOPS to MW or not - I am glad they switch it every year.

The MW franchise has been hugely successful for IW and Activision and has a loyal fanbase of many millions - but it isn't innovative enough for gaming purists - so they will therefore decide against making MW4.

No really.
