You Need Almost 50GB For Arkham Knight: Is It Problematic?

If you plan on playing Batman: Arkham Knight, you might have to free up some space on your PlayStation 4 hard drive.

As you can now pre-order the highly anticipated game from the PlayStation Store, it has come to light that the file size is huge...like, absolutely massive.

Unfortunately for those with a full HDD, this bad boy clocks in at nearly 50GB (48.7GB, to be exact), which is more than the 41 gigs required for Grand Theft Auto V. However, we're reminded that Killzone: Shadow Fall, a PS4 launch title, also needed close to 50GB. And other games over the past year or so needed between 35 and 45GB to be installed on the console.

The question is, do you find this to be a problem? The new streamlined console is better at handling installing and re-installing (if necessary) but even so, it seems awfully easy to fill up that 500GB hard drive.

What do you think?

im not to concerned with the sizes of installs. it does suck but if it is how they think my game will operate at its optimal speed then fine.

my question is: is anyone using ssd or hybrid drives in their ps4? i want to know if its worth going either route in the ps4

Excellent question. I've also been wondering if ssd and/or hybrids are worth it in a ps4. Curious what PSXextreme members have to say about it.

From people I know it's really not worth the extra cost. You can get a 2TB backup plus slim from Seagate for about $90 and remove it from the housing and stick it in your PS4. You can then stick the 500gb drive back in the housing and you got yourself a nice portable drive you can use with your PC or your PS4.

I went the 2 TB route as opposed to the faster hybrid drive with half the storage at the same price. I don't regret the decision at all.

@Jawknee - that's exactly what I did. Totally worth it!

Meh, I guess it's the norm now. Plus now we can use external drives to backup stuff, which I think includes game installs but I may be wrong.

I think the back up function is just a way to back up the total of your HDD like with the PS3. I don't think you can play content off the external drive or pick and choose what to back up.

Oh, darn. With games taking up so much space it would be a really useful feature, more useful than saving us all of a minute to start up a game by allowing us to suspend apps.

It's not a big problem but it still takes me by surprise every time. I might feel differently if I was doing it all the time but it's tolerable. If it ever did annoying then I could always upgrade the hard drive. They made that easy too, thank God.

It's really only concerning for those who can't afford to upgrade their HDD and/or have limited bandwidth.

It's easier if you're installing from a disc but even with a good connection, you're going to be waiting.

More like for those who just want to keep all their games for the sake of it, even if they are never gonna be played again.

i already maxxed my HDD once and had to clear some things and ill probably have to do it again for this. Its not a huge deal since its just the game installs so just a minor annoyance if i ever wanna go back and play an older game

Does that mean the game has been finalized and they're now working on the day one patch?

Am I the only one excited when this happens? To me it just means the devs are using all the possible space they can on the disc. Granted you can always improve within the same 50 gb that's allowed, just ask ND.

Install size has nothing to do with quality. 50GB can just mean tons of uncompressed audio, as was the case with Titanfall, where 34 of the 50GB install was audio files for all languages.

Nope, not a problem at all. I have stock 500GB HDD and I will just delete games I don't play anymore, And there are many... why keep them?

Well I have a bunch of games that I go back to regularly, but ya disc based installs don't take very long so it's not a huge issue.

Def not a problem. I encourage bigger files in hopes of faster load times/less waiting.

I'm rarely switching between more than two games, and nowadays I sell back most games that I don't play. So I don't see this as an issue.

Na it's no biggie. Delete some old content and you're fine. You can always download it again, ad that's coming from someone with a pathetic broadband speed of 1.0mb per second (though I think we get it cheaper in Ireland as opposed to say the US). Took 3 days to fully download bloodborne. Hard Times

well i sorta expect it now that games are massive cos they are getting so much more complex and well i guess one way of getting around it is getting a massive harddrive put in before you get going cos its a kinda annoiying process to do. but yeah like is said not surprise since the start the games have been getting bigger and bigger since the first ps4 games comeout

happy gaming
