Quantic Dream Sees "Major Differences" In PS4 vs. PS3
Many say the PlayStation 4 is essentially a PC. Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls developer Quantic Dream agrees with that.
But they also call it "the PC of 2014 or 2015," as studio co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere told GameSpot during the Tribeca Film Festival. Quantic Dream was on hand because Beyond was featured at the weekend event. Games are moving up in the world!
The executive also said they're seeing some "major differences" between the PS3 and PS4 based on their initial testing with Sony's new console:
"We are already seeing in the first [PS4 tests] that we're doing a big difference."
Their goal has always been the same, he explained: Capture the most realistic and authentic performance possible. This would in turn create the most believable virtual characters. de Fondaumiere added that the tech demo we saw at the PlayStation Meeting was just a "first glimpse" of what that technology is capable of, and he did confirm that Quantic Dream is working on an all-new engine for the PS4.
As for what he thinks of the PS4:
"There are limitations on the PlayStation 3 and there will be limitations on PlayStation 4. With the PlayStation 4, it's something that really is more like the PC of next year or two years."
Yes, there will always be limitations. The only question that developers must answer is- "How do I deal with those limitations?" And you know, Quantic Dream probably has several solutions.
