Call Of Duty: Ghosts: A New Next-Gen Engine, New Story, More

As Activision hinted earlier today, "The Ghosts Are Real" and they're going next-gen.

Featuring an all-new world, story, characters and overall experience, and powered by a brand new next-generation Call of Duty Engine from original developer Infinity Ward, Call of Duty: Ghosts is coming. A teaser trailer is below and the first exclusive look at the game will show up at Xbox.com, Xbox Live and on Spike TV on May 21 at 10 a.m. PDT.

The hugely anticipated title is scheduled to launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC on November 5. It will also be available on next-generation platforms, although we don't have an exact date. Said Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg:

"Infinity Ward set the gold standard for first-person action for a generation, and they're going to do it again with Call of Duty: Ghosts. Ghosts delivers an all-new story, all-new characters, an all-new Call of Duty world, all powered by a next generation Call of Duty engine, which is a leap forward for the franchise. Infinity Ward is going all-in to create the next generation of Call of Duty worthy of the world's greatest fans."

Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin added that while everyone was expecting his team to produce Modern Warfare 4, they weren't interested in doing the "safe thing." They viewed the upcoming console transition as "the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty." So we'll get a new engine, a new sub-brand and "a lot of new ideas and experiences." You can pre-order the game now, if you're so inclined.

I bought World At War recently. Funniest and saddest thing, it looks identical to Black Ops 2. Well can't hide from the fact people love the franchise, and then theres hipsters who claim to hate it, but play it anyway. Im liking WaW, it doesn't have this current trend of "Iraq and Russia is the enemy" Killzone may be in the future, but at least its not about russians or the middle east being the enemy. Talk about an old story being run on repeat.

HAHAHA

That final sentence made me laugh so much. An old story on repeat.

Seriously though, how many world war games have there been? and how long ago was world war 2?

Veteran mode is ONLY that hard, because of the stupid freaking HUGE flinch when you got hit.

Seriously, aim at a dude, get hit once, and you jump up to looking straight up in the air.

Wow, a new engine? This is huge news!

This will also silence a lot of haters out there (moreso if the engine proves to be a successful change).

Looking forward to it and seeing how it differs.

Still not funny.

People complain when they keep re-using (but modifying) the same engine and now that they have announced a new engine, the new generation jokes have begun.

The complaining never stops. CoD just can't win on the Internet.

And until they treat their loyal customers with respect they will never win on the internet. Sorry, but they in my opinion are the true definition of greed.

When is the last time they gave use DLC for free? I am honestly asking as I wouldn't know.

They pretty much refused to bring about a new engine for the game, even though they have made more money than probably any other franchise in existence this gen.

They simply don't care about customers and that is why the internet will continue too bash them every chance they get. I personally am not bashing the game CoD but instead Activision for showing that all they care about is getting money out of people hands what ever the cost.

Black Ops 2 had a free Nuketown 2025 (a very popular map in Black Ops 1 but this is the 2025 version of it) code with my regular copy of the game, which I consider free DLC.

Besides, why must DLC be free for a company to be liked? Yes they're out for profit, but so is everyone else. DLC is also entirely optional and they know many people will buy it so if you get the season's pass, you save (I believe) $20 on all the DLC. That should account for something.

They do care about their customers. Treyarch has been paying close attention and fixing a lot of issues in Black Ops 2. I would know, I own it and they have fixed many issues since the game came out in November.

Right now it seems to me like you're just talking out of your own ass. When was the last time you gave the CoD series a chance? Now you're acting like an expert yet you don't even know about their most recent DLC options. That definitely tells me something about you.

First off if I was acting like an expert then why would I ask the question about DLC? Seriously! And when you make that kind of money it should entice you as a company to reward your customers with some free DLC from time to time, or maybe a new eengine for an aging game, a ton of companies do this every year, and guess what they have a better reputation because of it.

And please don't use the season pass as something special, it is simply there for the people that are hardcore and know they are going to want the DLC, it is in no way a pay back to the customers.

I never meant to imply all DLC should be free either just in case that is what you were thinking. But say at a grocery store they'll give out samples, or companies that have rewards systems, it is just good business. If companies who have made pennies in comparison to Activision can and do do it why the he** can't they, simple because they're greedy. And it is ok, because by looking at their history if they don't change their ways CoD will eventually suffer the same fate as Guitar Hero.

Lol bro, Nas, just because you own BLOPS2 doesnt make you an expert on it. I own it too, I play it all the time, but its still crap. I wouldn't play it if I wasn't 10x better than my mates and enjoy owning them.

And Nuketown wasn't free DLC, as not everyone got it and I am pretty sure it is available for everyone for a fee now.

Don't make the excuse that they 'modified' the engine, it looks nearly identical to MW1.... It's funny, because the new engine they created for next gen will be the same engine they use for the entire generation.

I own every single Call of Duty game since Call of Duty 4. Nice assumption that I only own Black Ops 2.

It's not a bad game in the slightest. Your opinion is your opinion but it's not factual at all.

Also plenty of people I know got the Nuketown 2025 map for free, maybe your friends missed the code in the package or something. I dunno, doesn't really matter to me. People choose how to spend their own money, and if they choose to spend it on DLC, then so be it. The company cannot be blamed for their consumers' decisions. Quit trying to make it seem that way.

Here are some problems with your argument Nas is like.

First not everyone is for Profit. Profit is the very thing that is wrong with the industry at large. It isn't just about making money anymore, it is about making more money than you did last year in the same quarterly. This is why we have seen the up-rise of day one DLC, DLC, microtransactions, and over priced map packs. It is NOT just about making money it is about making more every year that is how corporations work.

Second you say not everyone has to buy the game, or the DLC etc. Here is the big BIG problem, marketing goes a long way in persuading people into buying a game. Heck if anyone has taken a marketing class or understands rudementery psychology they would see how the trailers and commercials and the marketing in general is brainwashing and persuasive as all heck. There are NLP tricks they use too sometimes when they have PR interviews. So while it might not be their "fault" they certainly are doing what they can to get people to buy the game.

There is a lot more going on with the franchise than them just wanting to make more money. When you look at the subtle changes to the game between titles other than the single player, all of it could be done by a skilled team in months not 2 years. The multiplayer is largely reskinned, and heck between MW1-3 they didn't even reskin anything really. Voices were recycled guns, etc.

Then you are charged for map packs. Good lord you sure don't have to buy them, but most people will because they don't want to not be able to play with all the other people and not be separated as a community. The prices are ridiculous considering it probably takes them about a week or less to come out with these things. People were making maps and mods for MW1(same engine) in short amounts of time. Heck it took an amateur team only 8 months to do a complete star wars conversion for MW1.

So why is it that in half the time amateurs can do a better job than the people who built the engine and have half a decade or more of experience?

On top of all of that nonsense, Activision can't be bothered to fix actually problems with the game. The spawn system is allegedly fixed in each game, but it really isn't anyone with half a brain can see that. The hit boxes, lag, interpolation, tick rates, lag compensation and other slew of technical issues still plague the multiplayer, most of which could be solved by dedicated servers. However activision can't do that, because that would dent the profit margin.

Top this off with the fact that zombies mode is a mess and has bugs, and messed up zombie AI and glitches that haven't been looked at since World at War, and you have a franchise that people hate.

Now some people hate on it because they think they should, but there are a lot of 100% objective facts for why a lot of people think the franchise is an ever rated pile of poop.

You guys can hate all you want but we all know its going to be a good game. Now you make ask yourself why? Well part of it is because Infinity Ward knows how to make a good story (It's not Uncharted greatness but it gets the job done.) Next generation will make this game feel and look better. (Again its not Battlefield greatness but you get the point.) regardless wether you hate COD or not this game is going to be very decent in terms of what you get for your money. I'm not counting DLC because we all know that's a ripoff but other than that you get a good story and amazing multiplayer for $60.

This pushes a lot more weight to MS' approach next gen - go hard on big, mass-market games and focus on the casuals and the teen-bro audience. It's a decent business move, but I highly doubt it will be the best gaming (or entertainment) device on the market. New CoD'll be fun for some beer'n'pretzels arcade shooting, of course. New trailer takes itself far too seriously though - if that's not designed for 14-year old blokes, nothing is ;).

About time they gave their fans a new engine, and it better blow Agnus and UE4 out of the water with the amount of money they have banked off of the franchise. I just find the "Gold Standard" comment to be hilarious as it is nothing but them stroking their own ego.

Well they claimed that BO2 was "basically" a new engine, because of all the tweaking they did to it *rolls eyes*.

So I wouldn't be surprised if they were just using the same engine but reworked some things using a high end PC as the lead platform.

I mean I'm hoping its something as impressive as cry3, agnus, frostbite etc, but I have a sneaking suspicion that either way CoD is still going to look like CoD.

I wonder when they will show Screens.

With the new Engine they should at least make the multiplayer maps bigger say as similar to the Battlefield series so they can have stiffer competition.

That's not an engine limitation.

The maps in mw1 and W@W were a LOT bigger than those in the last few games.

They made them that way to promote quicker action in multiplayer.

But even so, with the RAM upgrades in the next-gen consoles, we SHOULD see much bigger maps.

@Ben Dutka PSXE: I agree, continuing the annual CoD franchise is the safe bet, instead of developing a new IP or experience for gamers.

I felt each game could've been DLC because they all feel tacked on/reskinned. I personally, never bought the maps because I never think DLC is worth the buy (just my opinion).

@Nas is Like: Yes, people complained about re-using the same engine (since the original MW), heck even I did, and that's understandable. They did modify it but let's be honest, it still looks similar to their previous installments. You can only tweak a 6 year old engine so much before you reach its peak. We all know Activision wasn't going to change it, but was cornered by the next-gen systems to put up or shut up.

My thoughts? I don't care "that" they're doing new story (most games should be), but am excited about a new engine. It should look good because all the others: Unreal 4, Frostbite 3.0, Luminous Engine - Agnes Philosophy demo, and Capcom's Panta Rhei, all have a similar quality and enough next-gen feel to them. So it's going to look better regardless. My question is about everything else. I'm burned out and tired of the game, it has gotten to twitch-based for me...
