DICE: Star Wars And Tons Of Destruction Just Don't Mix
Developer DICE and the Battlefield franchise are well known for the sheer amount of destruction players can generate.
And while the upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront will feature such dynamic environmental interaction, the designers won't over do it.
In a new Engadget interview, DICE general manager Patrick Bach explained the difference between a "Battlefieldgame" versus a "Battlefront" game:
"Star Wars, as an [intellectual property], is shaping what we're doing. So we won't do excessive destruction just because we can. It's more about 'what do you need and what you want' in a Battlefieldgame versus a Battlefrontgame."
This builds on the previous point made on the game's Twitter page: "We're using destruction where it make sense but also working to create something that is authentic to the universe." Obviously, as the game will cater to "Star Wars" fans, you don't want to blow up the entire set. That set is the key draw for many; a barren wasteland isn't reminiscent of Lucas' iconic franchise, now is it?
