Ultratron Pays Homage To Robotron, Set For PS4, PS3, Vita
It's another blast from the past in slightly modernized form.
This time, the game in question draws from the arcade classic Robotron. As revealed over at the PlayStation Blog, Ultratron lands on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and Vita on May 12.
From a time when the titles had to focus almost entirely on the gameplay (because let's face it, the graphics just weren't there), Ultratron is the spiritual successor Robotron 2084, the 1980s arcade hit. The classic game almost single-handedly popularized the twin-stick control scheme and it left an indelible imprint on some people's minds.
Ultratron retains the same core old-school gameplay but brings things "up to date" with a bunch of unlocks and upgrades. Such things didn't really exist (in my eyes, upgrades aren't power-ups) in the early days of gaming, but it's certainly nice to have them now. Even so, the game is still very retro; there's even a simulated CRT screen curve!
If you recall the days of glimmering arcade cabinets with a particular fondness, you know you have to try this one.
